A Serbian Film (Uncensored Edtion)

Gonna check this out tonight…I’ve always figured there has to of at least been one made

Yeah, for instance those 3 Russian youngsters who filmed themselves murdering that guy, i think someone posted about it here before. Horrific stuff, and i only read about it, i didn’t watch the video.

One thing I really like and respect about the documentary is that it does a very good job of clarifying what the working definition of a “snuff” film is.

There are PLENTY of videos made of people torturing and/or killing their victims. There are executions, rapes, murders, etc. done on video.

The “snuff” debate is never whether there are films of people dying/ being killed. The “snuff” debate of “has it happened” or “is it just urban legend” needs to meed the criteria for it to be a legitimate “SNUFF FILM”.

Snuff — It must be a film where someone was killed specifically for the film in order to create a piece for others to pay to possess or watch. It must have an intent for “commercial” benefit, that is sale or rent to others so the “producers” can make money.

It is this commercial/ profit aspect that the murder / torture videos would typically fall short of. If I kindnapped some broad and filmed the rape and murder (yeah, I know, typical Saturday 'round here) it ain’t a snuff film unless I did it for the purpose of distribution to others for PROFIT.

Anyway, it’s a cool little doc.

That’ my point in saying it’s an outdated concept - you don’t need to pay some scummy underworld porn dealer for a snuff film when you can watch “3 guys 1 hammer” or “1 lunatic 1 icepick” for free.

^
Gotcha! Thanks, and yes, they discussed this as well. It was pre-3Guys, but they did talk about how stuff like the Nick Berg beheading and so forth being accessible on the internet has already filled that market gap that “snuff” conceptually would have completed in the pre-web days.

I suppose CUSTOM snuff films might be another story…

What do you mean? Like it’s created for a singular client as opposed to actual distribution?

That’s how I understood him. Wasn’t 8mm about that?

Was 8mm about that? It’s been so long since I have seen that film…

I remember being young and watching Videodrome and that was my first ever exposure to the idea of a snuff film…totally fucked my young mind up…I couldn’t wrap my head around the possibility…here we are 30 years later and wow…just wow…

Very cool doc,Gunnar…an interesting watch…

Yeah. I really love brilliant and deliberate public exploitation as a vehicle of promotion, and hearing things like how Deodato paid actors/actresses to go into hiding while his film garnered controversy . . . Just brilliant.

I have such mad appreciation for wicked PT Barnum style scheming (look up William Castle to learn about one of the best) and guerrilla marketing. I just didn’t know how much the conventional wisdom of “snuff” was linked directly to specific filmmakers’ actions and creations.

Oh, and Charlie Sheen. Hahahahahaha!!!

I’d always been curious about that movie actually entitled “Snuff”, by the way. I never knew anything about it, but it was always brilliantly packaged with a creepy nondescript brown bag or something and had taglines like, “This movie was only possible by making it in South America – where life is cheap!”

Snuff doesn’t appear to be on youtube, but Cannibal Holocaust is.

The most disturbing scene, to my mind, is when they butcher the turtle. I like turtles. [:(]

Yeah, the animal cruelty stuff is just to much for me…I hate that movie because of that shit…

I never saw Snuff either…was always curious about it because of the luring title and the artwork Gunnar mentioned…

Unless they happened to butcher a turtle in both films, I think you might be thinking of “Make Them Die Slowly” – which is essentially the same movie, I should note, but features different actors and a different Italian director and possibly different tribal jungle natives. But, yeah, it’s pretty much exactly the same movie.

Oh, wait, it might have been an aligator that was killed in “Make Them Die Slowly”. I’ll have to do some research . . . . so yeah, that might be another way in which those two movies are completely different. One has an aligator.

Yeah, they tear apart a turtle in Cannibal Holocaust.

Yeah, they tear apart a turtle in Cannibal Holocaust.

I was just reading reviews of “Make Them Die Slowly” (aka “Cannibal Ferox”) and it suggests a turtle too. HAHAHAHAHA!!!

HOW MANY TURTLES MUST DIE FOR THE ITALIANS TO MAKE ALL THEIR CHEAP CANNIBAL MOVIES???

Yeah, there must be some deep seeded hatred of turtles in Italy. I’m imagining old anti-turtle propaganda films being spread around the countryside.

Unless they’re turtles themselves killing and eating turtles isn’t cannibalism.

8mm was about an investigators journey in finding out if the 8mm film found in a safe was real after the old man died. I saw it in the theater with three friends. All three felt like vomiting afterward.

I found Hostel to be more disturbing.

Yeah but didn’t that old man hire somebody to kill her to be video taped?

If I remember correctly, yes, the film was commissioned. The 8mm film showed that she was sexually tortured and then slashed apart. However, the film did not appear to be distributed for profit.

Loved Videodrome, maybe my favorite movie, or at least most influential. It’s weird how the movie predicted many aspects of Internet personality.
