Anybody going to Open Air in Chicago? I’ll be there for work that week, so I was thinking of hitting up Friday for the Ministry / Meshuggah / Rammstein night.
When i was younger i thought Napalm Death and Carcass would be just too extreme for my tastes, but i really appreciate them now, especially being able to see the absolute energy they put out [:)]
HAHA!!! I’m kind of the opposite.
When I was a shitty teenager I was one of the dipshits thinking everyone “sold out” and became pussies when they made something a little more accessible, musical, slower, and groovy. Carcass, Death, Napalm . . . even bands like Megadeth . . . “oh, shit, this song is sort of melodic and listenable . . . fucking queers!” Although I still respect and appreciate the 100% balls-out explosions of aggression, I like my music to be a little more musical, and I see those turning points in such “extreme” bands as examples where they weren’t selling out but finally spreading their wings a bit to show that they were legit artists and songwriters and didn’t just need to hide out in the safe house of aggro badass extremity.
Went to The Cure on Sunday night…beautiful…
Aesop Rock next week
Flying to Philly to see Janes,Dino Jr and Living Colour
Ghost and Steven Wilson in Nov.

Yeah, i have a few friends like that, they started in extreme music and slowly softened to more melodic stuff over the years [:)]

I’ve got a decent lineup in Dallas. September will be crazy;

Agree 100%…I have seen probably 15 Cult shows since the Electric tour and this was one of the best tours they ever did…the whole band seemed reinvigorated…great set-list…killer show…

I usually stay away from festivals as there is only one or one and a half acts I even care to see on them, but that’s a pretty incredible lineup.
I would DEFINITELY see Ministry, Anthrax, Slayer, and The Cult.

some of it is new. but they’ll give you what you want to hear. they go back to the first record (horse nation).
Yeah,it was a cool and varied set…they got that wonderful tribal new wave rumbling just right for Horse Nation and I couldn’t believe the sound on Pheonix from Love…just a barn-burner…and the new stuff they play is excellent…Hidden City is a real grower …

Have you ever seen Bozzio do his thing live? It’s fucking mind-blowing shit…I saw him once in some little club and there was this small unoccupied part of the stage…it seems like a dick move looking back but I climbed up there and sat almost right beside his kit…nobody said anything so I just stayed there and watched the whole set…not to many people in the world who can play like that guy…
