13th Planet signs Assention of the Watchers

Who are these guys? Are they any good?

Its Burton C Bell’s darkwave-ish project. Only heard one song and it wasnt very impressive.

Ummm… They are far from Darkwave-ish. Most of it is rather relaxed, chilled out music. Lots of acoustic guitars. No screaming in any of their tracks. Just Burton singing. As a matter of fact, this band is comprised of only two members. Burton C Bell does vocals and a bunch of the guitars and lyrics for the band, while one of the members of Killing Joke handles the rest of the duties (and no I can’t remember which one it is, but I will find out to let you all know). The music is good. Nothing at all like FF or KJ. It’s not great and it’s not bad. It’s pretty decent background music. I would at least suggest you check it out. It’s worth a spin or two.

Peace!

Krowe

PS - Doesn’t surprise me that they signed with 13th Planet. Burton working with Al is almost his dream come true, and plus Bell was finding it difficult to manage the band on his indie printing, so would probably benefit from the collaboration. Oh yes… And it’s “Ascension Of The Watchers” and they only had one CD so far, titled “Iconoclsat”.

John Bechdel is the other full member of Ascension Of The Watchers. Mostly him and Burton, but on their Wikipedia page looks like they might have some other live members.

No surprise AOTW’s was signed to 13th Planet, with Burton guesting on the last album, and John having been a touring keyboardist for Ministry. I wouldn’t really be surprised to see at some point Fear Factory signing with 13th Planet either as they’re currently without a label.

would be good for al since FF is still selling pretty well…

I think 13th plan signing FF would be a good idea… who else is without a label… haha, they should sign all the bands that roadrunner drops like sepul and TON… steal the artists that steamhammer has picked up.
They’re probably all on contracts now though.

Seems like the only people he can get for the label are bandmates/friends.

Oh dear - how about branching out a little??

This wasn’t too much of a surprise since the AOTW logo has been on the 13th planet website for over 2 months.
This really isn’t too bad of a signing. This is just the type of signing that got Wax Trax! off the ground back in the late 80’s.

He should sign Nine Inch Nails when their Universal contract is up.
I’m totally serious.

I’m totally sure that wont happen.

Me too.
But it’s also very unlikely Trent won’t be going to a major label. He’s one of the few artists around that understands that the music industry is changing completely. The next Nails album after his contract is up with either be self-released through nin.com or on an indie label.

Yeah I’ve heard that too, that he will release stuff through NIN.com… wonder how that will work. SO he probably won’t even use a label

Think about it though, how smart a move would it be for Al to sign trent (although I’m sure it will never happen). Everybody and their dog still seems to follow NIN. Would definately bring a big following. Like early fans of NIN… well me anyway… would check out other bands on the nothing label…

snicker

I think at this point Trent could sign Al.

haahahhaha nice one.

I was able to listen to the cd…I like it…very different from FF.

Trent has given a few ideas of how it would work. There’s an interview somewhere with it. But to sum it up, he said “once it’s finished and mixed it’ll go out “any format you’d like”. You’d just pay 4 dollars or so through paypal.”. He also said there would also be physical copies as well. But all in all, I think he’s done with labels, in general. I think it’s a cool idea, but I wonder about touring, since I believe that’s label/advance-funding.

Not sure if the album coming up is the last with universal though. He might have one left after, but don’t quote me. And of course he’s thrilled about the idea of universal releasing a “greatest hits”.

I highly doubt Trent would go with AL…Trent is anti alcohol nowadays.

Couldn’t hurt for Al to call him up though.
“Hey Trent, how’s it going? Hey remember when we did Supernaut and Get Down Make Love and the RevCo tour? Those were good times, huh? Well I’ve got this record label and I was thinking…”

speaking of trent

nin finally did their first two shows in russia, it was great.

they played good, trent’s singing was good. the whole show was wild from the very start.

i know there are nin haters among some ministry fans but shit, at least nin play good balance of all the old and the new material unlike some other band which focuses only on last albums about some president.
