With all of the negative threads, I thought I’d reintroduce this.
Very few bands evolved as much as Pitch Shifter did, and I’d like to hear your guys’ thoughts on them.
They are finishing up a new album and I thought the timing was relevant, sort of.
I flipped through some of their stuff. I definitely hear the “Godflesh” and also Prong in some of their stuff, and yeah, then stuff like Prodigy and whatnot.
Anyway, it just feels stale and dated to me. I might have liked it in 1992 (and it probably was more cutting edge at that time) but it doesn’t do much for me now.
I got into Pitchshifter in 1992 and loved them. Desensitized is a classic to me. I believe Metal Hammer did a list a few years back of the most underrated albums of the 90’s and had it in the top 5. I also enjoyed Infotainment which was truly the bridge between the new and old Shifter. After that, I enjoyed the band, but never as much as Desensitized. I always assumed they got tired of being called a Godflesh ripoff and tried to go in a different direction.

If you didn’t want a negative thread then why did you start one about this shitty band [laugh]
I like them. It used to bother me that they base a lot of their stuff on ripping off other bands (Godflesh and Prodigy were already mentioned) but they are fairly interesting on their own as well… I actually thought their final album PSI was their best since they introduced some more melody into their music with a fair bit of success. Their drummer is quite excellent.
