your next el presidente

i’ve been a registered voter since nixon. have voted every single time since then and even when out of the country. if you care about this place get a griip.this presidential election is extremely important, and for all of you who have voted in the past, show some hands.
how many hands? the best way to ensure you and i have a say within the election is if you get your ass out there. it’s always inconvenient for me. but i didn’t grow up with conveniences.
i suspect a bunch of you didn’t either.

the us is at the bottom for health and education in the world. tell you anything?

it’s easy to do early voting, from wherever you are.as long as you’re a citizen.

if anyone needs help with early voting send me your info.
where’s al when you need his expert advice on these political matters.

I voted for the first time for Clinton’s relection and haven’t missed an election since.

I think voting early is a scham though! they never count your ballot unless the regular election results are too close to call. I’d rather have my vote count than vote early and maybe have it count.

[hand up]
I’ve been voting since I was legally able to, and not just for presidential elections and primaries.

I registered early last year. Haven’t excersised the right yet.

Heck yeah, boyee. Local elections are where all the hardcore action is at!

Jizzy

Donuts and coffee?? Shit, I’ve been robbed, all I ever get is the sticker! They must hide the D & C when I show up. M-Efers!

I dont vote cos i dont give a fuck and i never will. I dont think the government gives a flying fuck about ur vote either. Its a dictatorship, they decide who takes office and thier not gonna let the people get in the way of thier plans. Whatever they might be.

I don’t even know where to start on that. Honestly, are you that lost?

sigh I vote, I will vote, exercise your power to chose.

I apparently registered in 2003 at my college, they had a table to signup at one day, but, for some reason, it never went through.
You have to be 18 to register, right? I was a month away from being 18 at the time.
I’m deciding if I want to try and register again this year, but regardless, I plan to be out of the country within 3 years so I’m quite apathetic.
Time for me to start following Australia’s politics.

this is true. you’re right jizzy.
I may re-register soon, election in this town for mayor is coming up in Novemember too, and over the years, this place really went down the shithole. big time. sadly the man who is favored to win won’t do anything, and the man who isn’t favored to win would just do worse. another reason why I’m considereing moving at least out the state (NJ) soon.

This is one thing that Australia has done right. We have to vote in Federal, State and local council elections. Well, that’s not entirely true. We have to attend a polling station, have our name marked off, receive our ballot papers, then the rest is up to us.
I have been a registered voter since I was 17. When an election draws near someone from the AEC (Australian Electroral Commission) comes around to ask if all persons of voting age are registered in this household (I think they use censis data so they don’t visit every single house). If you will be 18 by the time the next election is due (Federal or State) then you are able to register.
I have voted in every Federal and State election since then (14 years) and although my candidate doesn’t always get in (like never) I had my say and that’s the most important thing.
I have also voted on board members for my insurance company and I currently have to vote on a national secretary for the union I am a member of.
When my mother ran for local council, I was a vote count witness. I was amazed at how many votes came through as Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Jesus Christ etc. These people have elected to submit a dummy vote. That’s there choice.
I tried to vote in the UK’s last elections (dual nationality) however I have lived out of the country for too long (I wasn’t old enough to attend school when I last lived there). Oh well. I tried at least.
I would urge all American citizens to vote. Have your say. You may not get heard, but have it anyway.

I will vote, as I always do, but I’m not really part of the crowd that feels like voting is your voice and feels really good about themselves after they do it. I would probably feel that way if I had more than 2 guys to choose from. America’s problem is it is divided into 2 groups that hate each other, and they are growing further apart. It makes no sense, and benefits only politicians.

I’m independent but I will vote for Obama in Nov. b/c I believe he believes what he’s saying and truly wants what’s best for our country. But for me, I think voting democratic is just as sigh inducing as voting republican. The republicans want everyone to follow the moral code of an ancient religion, and want business to have little to no accountably. Then the democrats want to expand the federal government and make people more reliant on federal aid and social programs. I could go into great detail about my dislikes of both parties, but it just makes me upset. When I go and cast my vote for Obama in Nov. I will hope for the best, but I strongly disagree with several of his ideas. Lesser of two evils I guess (dem/rep not Obama/McCain personally).

the republicans are gearing up for a big smear campaign of some sort against obama. he has no history of scandal.
but let’s look at mccain. he was cheating with current wife #2 ( the beer heiress), while wife #1 was undergoing chemo. nice. mccain’s voted 96-98% of the time w/ the republican party line, so he can’t attach himself to that maverick label without slipping off.
this election’s gonna get dirty. soon.
i attend these dems meetings everywhere i am, b/c i care. meetings with economics professors, retired lawyers, ladies who lunch and have too much money left to care, and the concensus is get people to vote. period.

i have no time or sympathy for people , who are adults, who don’t vote. i have kids. am i planning on leaving my kids with billions of dollars in debt to square somehow, or better yet, what happens in a couple decades when as a longtime self-employed person, i have to rely upon social security or medicaid/medicare?don’t want to saddle my own kids with that headache, b/c they will be the ones paying for it.

so again, if you’re not registered, and you’re an adult–be a man. get the thing done. yeah i know there’s vote fraud in pockets, but you gotta do your part.

end of speech. (obama better look me up when the opportunity’s ripe).
“ed…ed…you there?..”

i remember that song el presidente… i think it was by drugstore… thom york sang the “kill the president” part…
very touching

ha ha. thanks. i like a little of radiohead.
on another note, there used to be a mexican shack just north of wax trax in chicago called el presidente. the late night partypeeps always called it el prez.

Fuckin’ A. November is gonna be fun, fun, fun.

Obama, all the way.

Why? Not because he’s black. Not because he’s a Democrat. Not because he’s all about “change.”

It’s simple, really. He’s not a Bush, a Clinton, Huckabee, Nader, or fucking crazy. And that, my friends, is good enough for me.

here’s a bumper sticker i got at one of my dems meetings–

PREVENT UNWANTED PRESIDENCIES
Make Vote-Counting A Hand Job!

i think it’s a moveon.org thing, but i’m not affiliated so i don’t know.
it’s funny anyway.

my intro into politics was when as a little kid the precinct captain personally came to our house and asked if we needed anything and my dad said we needed a new sidewalk. it got done that week.he(precinct captain) was a democrat. my parents were LEGAL immigrants and thanked the party.

the republican party can kiss my ass, as i’m walking out the door. they never did a damn thing for me, for student loans, for healthcare, for anything. their agenda is god and gays.and the rich.
well, my friends, some of my closest allies were and are gay( NOT GOD). that won’t change any time soon.some gay friends may get richer. who knows.

peace. and vote.(often–as they used to say in chicago)
.

PREVENT UNWANTED PRESIDENCIES
Make Vote-Counting A Hand Job!

Ba-ZING! [laugh]

Priceless.

i remember there was an episode of the state when everybody kept getting arrested for saying they’d kill the president. even the teacher in class. going “now kids, you can never even joking say you’ll kill the president or YOU’LL GO TO JAIL” and then the secret service comes and arrests the teacher…

Seems we’re going places

gotta watch the back when it comes to commenting on the el prez. and that’s probably how it should be, but it does seem excessive.
somebody asked me recently if i didn’t think obama was a (physical) target. well, they all are. but do you honestly think he doesn’t have double the security? today’s paper had a picture of mccain with a bunch of bald white dudes in the frame, and obama’s pic included a bunch of black dudes in the frame.
i’m thinking obama’s gonna have the cover he needs.
but yeah, it’s pretty easy to trigger an official response when el prez 's name appears in the same sentence as a threat.
weird.
