Your Hallowe'em viewing

Binging on these classics tonight when I have the chance.

Saw that Shining documentary, ‘Room 237’, last night. It was a humorous tale and it pretty much cements my view that film analysis/film studies is a load of baloney. Think the makers of the movie made sure to give the loonies enough rope. Was a feat in itself making The Shining funny. Though I guess the Simpsons did that already.

Can’t go wrong with Return of LD…I’ll watch that as well…probably some Creepshow,Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things,Halloween:Season of the Witch,Zombi 2 and Trick r Treat(not a classic but a fun Halloween flick)…

zick: Look for “Stanley Kubrick’s Gold” on youtube, great analysis of the film which has a lot of backed up evidence behind it, though admittedly the final part takes a lot of concentration and may try to throw you…

Speaking of Exorcist, any fans try to get the original 25th Anniversary edition on DVD - has a great documentary called Fear Of God originally on the BBC. Great viewing.

Thanks. Just watched the first part and I liked it (I prefer studies that focus more on craft than interpretation and that doc. seems to have a more mature and researched footing). I don’t know if any of the following parts deal with the labyrinthine aspects of Danny’s triking around the hotel but I remember seeing something on that issue before (and it featured again in the Room 237 doc.)

Don’t think I’ve seen the Fear of God film but I’ll see if I can track it down. I wish they also made a doc. on just what John Boorman was thinking when he made the sequel. I met John once under non film related pretences and I was absolutely dying to confront him about it but in the end I just didn’t have the balls to do it because he was so nice.

Did you see the Room 237 doc. anyway, JLW?

So based on your discussion of the shining I started looking around the net and I found this website http://kubrickfilms.tripod.com/id4.html. It’s a cool website and I wonder how much of it is fans reading way too much into the movie than is really there (especially with the numerology) but it still seems interesting none the less. but Now I’m really interested in watching the shining again. I haven’t seen it in like 15 years and I only saw it once. but now I’m ready to check it out again. I will say what I do remember of the film is how well the movie captures the feeling of despair before anything really “bad” starts to happen.

Never saw Room 237. Will check it out sometime.

re: Kubrick interpretations, they are interesting but in the end they never end up with theories that I have. But that’s what is great about art in general, interpretations.

did the Phantom of the opera suite today (1920s and 1940s versions) so fucking good… the 20s one much more so than the 40s one…

some phantasm, some romero, some PUMPKINHEAD, the new Jen Lynch movie ‘Chained’, and then on halloween day, FRANKENSTEIN, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, and Candyman. haha.

I watched the following movies this past week:

‘Sleepy Hollow’ (1999)

‘Halloween’ (1978)

‘Hellraiser’ (1987)

‘The Thing’ (1982)

‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ (1974)

‘The Fly’ (1958)
