your 5 favorite downloaded songs

this is just an idea for a topic…it should be interesting to see everyone’s thoughts!

out of all the songs afra and bisquit put up for download so far, which have been your favorites? at first i was going to do just one…then 3…then thought 5 would be better. anyway, in no order, here’s mine:

eyes of christ
america
overkill (live)
ricky’s hand
thrill kill cult

I chose Eyes of Christ because to me, it was the defying point of the Twitch tour…Al seemed pissed as hell, the music was aggressive, and it was the prelude to the sound on the LORAH album. It’s the perfect summation of everything, with cool lyrics and an awesome synth line.

America’s a fun one…but also one of Al’s earliest political songs. The lyrics stand true in today’s society, perhaps even more so. It’s really catchy, too.

Overkill was to pre-With Sympathy as Eyes of Christ was to pre-LORAH…it was aggressive, dark, edgy, and heavy. Excellent guitar work and it doesn’t even sound like early Ministry at all…way ahead of it’s time.

Ricky’s Hand is one of the tracks I’ve listened to the most…it’s just very additcting to me. I love the synth sound…a great cover song.

Thrill Kill Cult…what more can be said about this one? Turned out to be an amazing Lead Into Gold track. I put it on the same page as Eyes of Christ, just a little less aggressive but just as harsh. Once again, Al’s vocals were never that rugged sounding up until this point.

so how about everyone else? [:)] I’m also curious to see Afra and bisquit’s favorites as well!!

um

ricky’s hand
do you even like it
america
overkill
i see red

Primental - Love the keyboards on this track

Same Old Madness - Brilliant intro - cheesy as hell though [:)]

We Believe (Live 03) - Probably my favourite track from Twitch and I like this updated version

Get Down (Live 90)

No Devotion (Live 88) - I don’t have much by RevCo but I love this track…is this with Ogre on vocals?

yep, I believe that’s the live version with Ogre on it

My favorites:

America - Probably tops the list of early Ministry for me. It combines the poppiness of the early days with the energy that came later.

Thrill Kill Kult - Not only is it cool to hear an early version of a Lead Into Gold track, but with lyrics by Groovey Mann to boot.

Eyes Of Christ - also an early version of a track, and with Roland wailing on the sax.

Golden Dawn - This one’s amazing to me. It just keeps going and going and all the changes they made from the original are very much for the better.

Al Day 87 - I had the added advantage of not expecting this, so it’s that much cooler for me. Try listening to it and pretending you don’t know what it is until you hear it. That’s me on the first listen. Waiting to see what the song’s going to turn into, and then the vocals break in…

And now, my 5 favorite things that I wish would surface so I could put them up as downloads:

  1. The Lead Into Gold - Low And Slow EP. No secret that I’d love to hear this. There were at least 2 new songs and a remix of Lunatic/Genius on it. I bet all are gold.

  2. The original version of The Idiot - Break out your copy of Chicks And Speed. Notice that all tracks are credited to Barker except Hatred and Idiot. Those are credited to Barker/Jourgensen/Barker/Rieflin. There’s no coincidence that that’s the Twitch tour lineup. We have a recorded version of the early version of Hatred that they worked up during the Twitch tour, which means there was probably an early version of The Idiot, perhaps with different vocals, from back then as well.

  3. Same Old Scene - yeah, it’s only rumored to exist, but I’d kill to hear it.

  4. In The Neck (Live 88) - Specifically live from one of the January 88 dates Revco played with Ogre replacing Connelly. I love Connelly, and I’ve heard him doing Ogre. It would be cool to hear the other way around. Besides, can you picture Ogre doing this one? “I’m a killing machine!”

  5. First True Love Affair (live 82) - Or really any of the other covers they did for the first couple shows. How cool would it be to hear those guys playing together on live dates for the first couple times, struggling through cover songs.

you hit the nail on the head for the most wanted list!! the early cover songs must have been very interesting.

glad to see we have simliar tastes bis [cool]

Idiot DEFINITLY sounds end of Twitch era pre LORAH music wise. I gave it a few listens today and enjoyed it greatly. But I do wonder…did Al plan that for Twitch? LORAH? hm…

As for the Low and Slow e.p…was that stuff recorded in the same era? (86/87- 90) or done at a different time?

same old scene…is that a remix or somehing to same old madness? or at least from the same era?

Just five? Okay…

  1. Same Old Madness - I love the old stuff, would’ve liked to see this one have a proper release.
  2. All Day (87) - One of my faves, I love the new intro.
  3. America - Just damn catchy (Apple pie, ho!)
  4. Get Down - The closest thing I’ve ever heard to a Ministry ‘jam session’, this one’s really LONG, and the conversation with the audience is funny.
  5. Thrill Kill Kult - Lots of fun, I love the synth line in this more than anything.
  6. Step 12" - Hardly any diff. between the two, but I love it anyway.
I also really like the live version of Revenge (wasn’t posted, but it’s from the same show as Overkill and Primental). Interesting, and catchy as all hell.
