Reading this again, i realised it’s “doesn’t appreciate” instead of “hates” his fans. I was having a discussion with a friend last night about Bill Hicks, as in my friend “doesn’t need Bill Hicks” to tell him the world is fucked up…
“Well, do you appreciate your fans?
I appreciate their money. I don’t appreciate them. If it takes me to stir up their pot in their brain, then they’re already behind the game.”
“First of all, you are completely, 360-degrees wrong on this concept.”
I think you’re taking his quote a bit out of context. It was prickish indeed, but he seemed to be saying more in a political context like Ministry is actually less important than what they SHOULD be caring about or putting their money towards…
I found this interesting:
“Does that mean there’s a possibility you’ll finally get behind With Sympathy, the synth-pop debut you’ve said you’ve hated for so long?”
AL : That’s a very interesting question, because I noticed on this new album, I have some of the same harmonies and stuff and background vocals as I did on With Sympathy. There’s some melodic texture to it, yet it’s heavy as hell. So I don’t think it’s gonna be a quick switch-around where my next record’s all pop, but I do think all the influences confluence into one certain sound, which is our band. I don’t know of other bands that could do that. Other bands are so great at what they do, and they keep doing it. We just kind of keep going a little bit here, there, backwards, forwards. We just try and make it through an album, man.
Can’t say i’m surprised by any of that. But at least he’s being honest about it and not trying to feed us sugar coated bullshit about how his left album is the best thing he’s ever done. I can respect that. He would be nothing, though, without his fan following. Those people for many years who have bought his albums, and paid to see him live.
Now I’m not gonna feel so bad selling some of my Ministry collection.

Well there you go. Expect a really REALLY bad “tribute” record of songs re-done from With Sympathy on Cleopatra Records.
You fuckers asked for it. Soak in the badness!
I don’t remember asking for it.
Al’s a douchebag. BUT! He’s released many incredible album. As a person, be sucks. But as a musician (in his prime), he was a force to be reckoned with. If he can put out good music, I can really not give a shit on what he thinks or what kind of guy he is. In the end, it’s all about the music. The other stuff in the background is a distant second though.
