YaY for gay people

However, I’ve always found this whole push towards normalcy by the gay community to be a little depressing. Some of the most influential culture on my life was created by gays who simply realized that, “society is going to perpetually view us as aberrations, so fuck it - we’ll just do and create whatever we want, since we’re never going to win their approval anyway.” Culture-transforming individuals like Kenneth Anger and William Burroughs came out of this environment of willful non-conformity, and I don’t see anything like them coming from the 21st century gay mainstream.

You think gay people are stereo typically quirky and cool because they are shunned by society?

[reply][reply][reply]Congratulations, Homos.
I’m gonna pop a wine cooler tonight while rockin’ some Erasure.

What a premier league unreconstructed cunt you are.

Though I doubt you know what that means

This is one of the most backward, racist, homophobic, misogynist boards I’ve ever seen. I guess that’s a fun thing for you, but just in case you hadn’t noticed, the rest of the world is moving on.

You guys are seriously lagging behind. It’s like natural selection, you’re the dinosaurs. Which is a really good thing, trust me.[/reply]

Not everyone here is as you described.[/reply]
I don’t think Databoy does snark. 'tis a pity.[/reply]

hmmm, maybe.

C’mon, Gunnar doesn’t hate people.

True. Gunnar loves to have fun with people, all people. Gunnar couldn’t have and wouldn’t have done what he did in Anaheim with Void on stage if he fit Databoy’s description.

[reply]Not everyone here is as you described.

I know. But a lot of the ‘big shots’ are.

No offence to you Mooney.
[/reply]
Who are the ‘big shots’
and what exactly is your evidence of your charges?

I want to reply to this but I have no idea how to word it without sounding like a complete asshole.

? Puzzled…
How is this post any different from all of my other left leaning, hippie, opinion cramming down the boards throat, posts when it comes to politics?

The difference has a lot to do with that lemon meringue pie I was mentioning earlier.

What a premier league unreconstructed cunt you are.
Though I doubt you know what that means

True. I don’t know what that means. I’ll just assume it means you think I’m totally bitchin’ and envy me and my raging awesomeness.

This is one of the most backward, racist, homophobic, misogynist boards I’ve ever seen.

You haven’t seen much more of the internet, have you?

I guess that’s a fun thing for you, but just in case you hadn’t noticed, the rest of the world is moving on.

I’m not interested in the rest of the world. I’m here to talk about cheeseburgers and Twisted Sister. Norway, Uganda, and whatever other countries there are on the planet can kiss my ass, and you can too.

Fun? Fun for me is watching a dimwit mongoloid pussy show up out of nowhere and get his diaper twisted because he took a sarcastic one-liner personally and got butthurt when he could have just looked around for a minute or two and realized he was about to charge into a windmill.

You guys are seriously lagging behind. It’s like natural selection, you’re the dinosaurs. Which is a really good thing, trust me.

Dinosaurs are totally badass. You are not.
I lasted 500,000,000 years.
You’ll be lucky to last another day.
Enjoy the modern world, Wimp.

Eh, it’s not anything that condescending. I’m not one of these people who felt they had to go out and get themselves a “pet gay friend” around the time “Queer Eye” etc. was making ripples in pop culture.

Basically, I think that there are some fundamentally sick things about modern U.S. society - everything from its historical rate of imprisoning people, to its terrible record of installing dictators that it later spends trillions of dollars to depose (Iraq, etc.), to its need to feed people on cocktails of behavior modification drugs rather than truly addressing the problems which lead people to those chemical quick fixes.

And as such, I’d be wary any time the societal mainstream / ‘powers that be’ / whatever decides to “embrace” me.

I realize gay culture isn’t and never has been a one-size-fits-all phenomenon (the pride flag is a ‘rainbow’ after all); and I’m glad that there are all political points represented in that culture from conservatives like Andrew Sullivan to liberals like Dan Savage. And it’s the potential loss of that diversity which I’m actually lamenting here. What I’m worried about here is that there is a definite cultural thrust towards making ‘gayness’ just another face of the bland mono-culture we already have.

What a premier league unreconstructed cunt you are.

Though I doubt you know what that means

The “premiere league” is the highest level of professional football in the U.K.

“Unreconstructed” is a Soviet-style academic diss word along the lines of “reactionary”

“cunt” I am not sure about, is it a slang related to the town of Scunthorpe?

Be careful about saying “the world” when what you mean to say is “parts of North America and Europe.” There are vast swathes of the earth that are getting MORE into things like ethnic nationalism, homophobia etc., rather than less.

he could have just looked around for a minute or two and realized he was about to charge into a windmill.

Way to class this joint up a bit with a nod to Don Quixote.

Eh, it’s not anything that condescending.

Doesn’t have to be. It’s like saying all black people have big dongs. Seems like a compliment unless you’re one of the black people with a small to average dong. Then based on a stereotype you are a lesser of the group, an outcast if you will. I’ve known plenty of Gay people (probably well more than half, of the ones i’ve known) that weren’t quirky or cool but rather took their behavior and personality cues from the over the top hyperbolic swishy portrayals in movies and TV.

And as such, I’d be wary any time the societal mainstream / ‘powers that be’ / whatever decides to “embrace” me.

Very astute point.

I think People are quirky on their own as personality traits go and sexual orientation/reaction to sexual orientation really has noting to do with it. Although, I suppose there could be some truth that being gay may have “enhanced” (i guess) their already quirky personalities.

^ Yeah, I actually agree.

I’ve met a lot of gay guys who aren’t “quirky” or flamboyant at all. I imagine I’ve also been around a lot more gay guys than I’m aware of because many of them don’t act the way society seems to think gay guys act. I think it just stems from different communities and people. I’m sure some are just more feminine/flamboyant while others seem to be playing up the stereotype.

Woah there… save some of that fake outrage for your tumblr account.

Speaking of gay… was Paul Barker gay?

maybe for his wife, the faggot! [pirate]

I’d go gay too if I was shackled to that harpy.

Seriously, though. Is/was Bruce Jenner gay? I haven’t figured that one out. He identified with a woman but he was married to a woman. Now he is a woman and isn’t married at all. He looks like a butch woman now, and often butch women are lesbians. Is Caitlyn a lesbian that likes other women? If so, who would he/she attract? Lesbians typically like other woman but Caitlyn isn’t really a woman. How does that work?

Two different/separate things. Gender identity is one, who you are attracted to is another. She identifies as a woman and will remain attracted to women.

Ask Keith/Mina Caputo…

I can’t keep track of any of this crap anymore.
I heard Facebook added like 42 new options for “gender”.

I’m kind of sick of everyone being so damn special that we need to reformat driver’s licenses, internet platforms, spell check . . . ad infinitum.

Just yesterday I read some article with reference to the LGBTQ community. What the heck is the Q for? Why do we keep adding letters to explicitly define every damn person on the planet? Why do people who live outside the box need to create boxes of their own?

“I’m oppressed because I don’t consider myself a male or female because I was born a little girl in a boy’s body and then I realized that I was actually a crocodile inside of a girl’s body who was unfortunately born with a penis so I had my penis removed and tits glued on my back so I can breastfeed my genderless children without looking at them . . . . so, yeah, it’s really not fair that I don’t have a special box to check on this here voting form!”

No, jackass. You’re a confused weirdo with a bad case of narcissism. Stop expecting the world to conform to you. You’re the goddamned shape-shifting chameleon. Try adapting your attitude for once.

People are people. Be nice to them and let them do their thing. And if they get offended for something stupid . . . screw 'em.

Post of the year…couldn’t agree more…

Im less understanding/tolerant in this area as the pon3 as well. What the fuck does “ive always felt like a boy/girl” mean. Ive been male for almost 40 years and i couldnt tell ya it means to “feel like a boy” other than i like girls. In all honesty i think its a way to “legitimize” (for lack of a better word) being gay. Ive often wondered if wed have this situation if society wasnt so down on gay people to begin with
