Worst covers ever?

Fear Factory - Cars.

Horrid.

Sheryl Crow- Sweet Child O’ Mine

I’ve thankfully never heard it.

Slayer — “Born to be Wild”

I’ve thankfully never heard it.

I’m going to take a wild guess that you’re not a huge Slash fan.

System of a Down - Snowblind (Black Sabbath)
Apoptygma Betzerk - Nothing Else Matters (Metallica)
Tesla - Thank You (Led Zeppelin)
The Cure - Young Americans (David Bowie)
PIG - Just Like You (Ministry)
Bathory - War Pigs (Black Sabbath)
Stone Temple Pilots - Break On Through (The Doors)
KMFDM - Material Girl (Madonna)
Ozzy Osbourne - All the Young Dudes (Mott the Hoople)

The whole “A Tribute To Metallica” by Die Krupps.

Fear Factory - Cars.

Horrid.

This was a duet that featured Gary Numan, so how does this count as a cover?

Most of the songs on Cover Up by Ministry.

And the other one, Greatest Tricks or whatever it was called.

“Thunderstruck” comes to mind. Ugh.

That one is terrible.

I picked up “Undercover” for $5, and “Paranoid” is a really great track. Most of the others are, indeed, total poo.

Whatever it was it was bad.

Not sure anyone here has heard of or cares about electroclash-Eurotrash combo Chicks on Speed (of “we don’t play guitars!” fame). Their debut featured no fewer than FOUR covers which were pale imitations of the originals. And they were:

  • Warm Leatherette (The Normal)
  • Give Me Back My Man (B-52s)
  • Kaltes Klares Wasser (Malaria)
  • Mind Your Own Business (Delta 5)

And I thought the record store clerks at Reckless were joking when they had the CD labeled as “ART SCHOOL CRAP” in the new releases bin where I found it. Shame on me.

Oh, and post-edit bonus: has anyone ever heard FALCO (“Rock Me Amadeus”, “Der Kommisar”) covering “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue” by Bob Dylan? WOW…have a barf bag handy.

That reminds me - since you mentioned the Cure covering Bowie - there was a Robert Smith / Bowie duet recorded at some birthday bash of his, where they do “Quicksand” together.

Not really as bad as the other cover you mention, but not really necessary either.

I’ve heard that Quicksand, I allow those two at least one free pass.

As for Chicks on Speed, why make 31 flavours if you can’t get vanilla right?
