Work For Love, Live '84

“This is our last song…”

Thunderous applause

[laugh]

I like this one. Damn shame it cuts off at the end.

“heeeeeeeey”

awesome.

so much of al’s recent saying that the evil corporate producers transposed his voice two octaves higher.

Sounds pretty good to me ;).

Gotta love it.

WORK!!! (man Al was a badass)

Even more of an abortion than the album version if such a thing is possible. [;)]

Sounds like the same backing tape that was used in '83. All the little tinkly stuff is exactly the same.

hey wempathy, what do YOU know?

So Madness was headlining a tour in 1984? They had a modest hit with “Our House” in summer 1983, but I didn’t think they had such a loyal following.

Poor Al, that must have been the SAME OLD MADNESS.

Yes, the backing tape sounds exactly the same as the 1983 tour - perhaps they increased the tempo a little.

The sped-up tempo is probably a result of the recording itself being a little fast. It would have been impossible to speed up the tempo of the backing tapes without it affecting tuning.

Ministry opened for them twice near the end of the 1983 With Sympathy tour, but I’ve been assured this is not from one of those. That makes sense, given the source of these as well. According to the Madness timeline, they toured pretty actively during 1983, but their only dates in 84 were in California in February. Most likely this is one of those. Remember that this is the same incarnation of Ministry that played a high school, so I don’t think it’s as big a deal as you’re thinking.

Most likely, yes. This came from the same tape as the Halloween demo, and everything was way slowed down. I sped it all up by the same factor, assuming it would match pretty well. I was probably a little off on this one, but it sounds way better than when it was slowed down.

Thanks for another great rarity, bisquitodoom.

Yes, I’ll second that. Phenomenal stuff.

I e-mailed Pothier several months ago thanking him for his “recent” article in the Boston Globe during the Police reunion tour. I mentioned that I regularly searched for early-Ministry stuff in the mid 1990s when I lived in Boston at stores like Mystery Train Records, Second Coming, and Newbury Comics. I found a few taped shows - namely the Detroit 82 and Toronto 86 shows, but that was it.

I really appreciate the efforts of those who have kept this material alive for us to hear.
