I’m a huge fan of “Burned Mind” and I was trying to decide which of their albums I should get next from this indie store. My options are:
Fuck Pete Larson
Slicer
Split LP w/Black Dice
Anyone care to give a review of any of these albums? I’ve heard FPL is two long tracks so that might be annoying…and the Black Dice split LP supposedly sounds more like Black Dice and lacks percussion on at least half of the record.
I wasn’t a huge fan of Black Dice’s “Beaches and Canyons” or whatever it was called…too chilled out and not noisy/angry enough for me.
Burned mind was a good place to start. I’d suggest “Dead Hills” as the next thing to get. I have “Slicer” and its cool, but it doesnt really set up a mood as much as “Dead Hills”. The other two I have not heard, but I think that “Fuck Pete Larson” thing was just sort of a one-off or a jam or something of that nature. If those are your only three options, I’d have to say go with “Slicer”. On a side note, I actually work with someone by the name of Pete Larson. How odd…
I’ve been meaning to check these guys out. If you could name one track that represents their style the best, what would it be? I’ll download it and use it to decide whether I should explore more. I am not a huge noise fan but I hear so many good things about Wolf Eyes, I want to check them out…
One track? Hmm, I’d have to go with “Dead Hills 1”. It wasn’t “mindblowing” the first time I heard it, but you have to kind of let it sink in and almost use it as backround music. It’s pretty amazing the kind of headspace it puts you into. But really, like any “band” its tough to judge anyone by just one track.
Wolf Eyes are great. I have a few out of print albums by them. I’d suggest Live Scum if you can find it (not in stores though). 30 minute live show from 2003, on one track.
I would suggest Black Vomit and Rattle Snake Shake. Then maybe Stabbed in the Face, which seems to be their most well-known song, but those are all off of Burned Mind LP.
I did hear “These of Girls of Mine” by Wolf Eyes and it was cool, but I don’t know what CD that is originaly from.
But please, listen to more than one song. God knows if I was just discovering Ministry and heard anything from With Sympathy I’d skip right on by.
Resurrecting an old thread. Wolf Eyes has a new album out, ‘No Answer’ which sees them returning to the classic thumping drum machine sound of albums like ‘Dread’, ‘Dead Hills’ and even one track sounding kind of like their original self-tiled LP on Bulb Records!
I like the album, and I’m happy to hear the return of the thumping big beats, which was always my fav thing about their brand of Noise/old school Industrial music.
I’ve liked every major release they’ve done except that new-ish ‘Always Wrong’ is just too abrasive in a bad way and lacks the thumping beats instead using real drum recordings distorted to all hell. Basically a recipe for a massive headache…I tried to get into it but I was just fooling myself really…
Peligro, I know you used to like them, but I guess now that they’re not darlings of indie press you can’t be bothered to form your own opinion?
Casual fan here. I adore the Burned Mind album. The synthesis between punishing elements of traditionalist noise & more accessible elements (the stomping beats, guitar riffs here and there…) made for a memorable listen. Is this considered an album proper or another mix-tape?
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
Look at all the wool on the guy on the right. That is simply amazing. I don’t think I’ve seen beards on homeless people that reach that kind of proportion.

Would still love to see them live.
This is an album proper.
It has the same basic formula as ‘Burned Mind’ …but a bit more old school 90s in feel, more similar to their material prior to that. release.
It is not as good as ‘Burned Mind’ (none of their albums are…the closest one probably being the follow up ‘Human Animal’)
I like them but have not followed them for a long time. I thought they had more or less disappeared.
Without sounding snobbish, I think most people on this forum wouldn’t get them. I think you could very easily split the forum into two camps: those who get Wolf Eyes and those who don’t. And I think the “don’t get them” camp would out number the rest of us by about 50.
Don’t get 'em; don’t like 'em. Same thing with Merzbow. In tiny doses, mixed in with other styles, noise is great, but alone, it just scares the pants off of me. (And before you slag, I actually own both “Burned Mind” and “Human Animal,” but never listen to them.)

Dude…you are a snob lol. But it’s ok. Just post more nekkid pics and all will be well.
I’ve been following their career closely ever since I discovered ‘Burned Mind’ and have seen them live at least 4 times. 5th will be next month! One of my favorite bands.
To sum up what you’ve missed, I’d say get ‘Human Animal’, skip ‘Always Wrong’, and get this new one if you liked their ‘Dread’ and ‘Dead Hills’ albums. This new one is way more in line with their 90s material than the 2000s stuff…
My opinion is that they are a decent noise act with some strong material in their back catalogue. However, I must say that when it comes to noise I prefer acts like Prurient, Bastard Noise and Kevin Drumm.
But live they are insane…one of the best live acts on the planet.

This is why I hate talking to people about anything. You could replace Wolf Eyes with whatever film, philosopher, writer…gross

Haha! Happens to me all the time. If you don’t like something it must be because you’re dumb and don’t “get it”. I’m gonna use the same argument for stuff I like. “You don’t like Hulk Hogan’s rap-rock album, ‘Hulk Rules’? That’s cool. Not everyone GETS IT. I, however, am part of the elite few that gets it.”
I didn’t mean I was privileged or one of the elite because I like Wolf Eyes. I was simply saying that they are the kind of band who divide music fans - even on more open minded forum like this one.
