Wire. April 7, D.C.

Saw the geezers last night. A great gig and I thoroughly recommend catching them if you can.

Good luck to ya getting a set list from me; Wire songs are short and many, but they did play some favourites like ‘Kidney Bingos’ and ‘Two People in a Room’ (the latter was vicious, a pure electric attack). They covered material from across their catalogue (1970s - 2010s).

Like Swans, they’re comfortable with and enjoy their new album and don’t mind hinging their set around it. (though I can’t remember them playing anything from Object 47) ‘Moreover’, ‘Adapt’, and ‘Red Barked Tree’ were quality. On one or two songs it was apparent that Newman’s vox are not what they used to be but this did not entail a major drawback at all. All four of them had great energy and loved the noise they were creating.

The audience was about a 50/50 mix between auld lads and people in their 20s-30s.

Glad to eventually see one of my favourite bands and, despite their age, still on top form.

EDIT: Here’s the setlist: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/wire/2011/black-cat-washington-dc-2bd3bca2.html

Nice one. They were brilliant when I saw them a month or two back. I got some good photos too…

They were punishingly heavy at times and rocked the house big time.

And yeah for sure catch them if they’re swinging into your town…even if you’ve never heard their stuff before catch the show as they’ll probably be your fav band at the end of it.
