Someone else was telling me, there is a part in there where says that one of the worst moments of his presidency was when Kanye West claimed W “didn’t like black people.”
I haven’t personally read it, even by going on Amazon to ‘look inside’ - so I don’t know if that’s a paraphrase or an outright fabrication.
I haven’t read the book.
But the Kanye comment was more contextually wounding, I think, than hurtful because of the statement on face value (he certainly wouldn’t have been the only one to shout racist allegations at Bush).
The “George Bush don’t care about black people!!!” comment was amidst a live broadcast (maybe it was one of those fund-raising telethons or something) from the Hurricane Katrina fiasco. So many blunders and failures on behalf of crappy execution of relief and response. And with Bush as President, there were plenty of moments where he himself dropped the ball.
Bush was a boob. I don’t think he’s evil. I think he’s a boob. And I suspect he was troubled and hurt greatly during the Katrina shitfest. I’m guessing it was one of those “kicked a man when down” or “rubbing salt in it” type of moments for the dude.
Exactly. What Gunnar said. Bush isn’t an awful person, he’s just wrong about almost everything.
It was hurtful to Bush because he probably really DOES care about black people. Maybe he didn’t prove it in whatever way Kanye thought he should, but he does care.
Cheney probably doesn’t care about black people, but I’m not sure Cheney cares about anybody but Cheney.

I doubt it just based on the shit his mom talked about them in one of the interviews on katrina. If thats the mindset that was consistent through out his up bringing i would think that would be hard to shake.
His mom said something to the effect of those people living in the superdome had it way better in the dome after the hurricane than they did in their actual house and they couldnt even be thankful for that. I do agree w is stupid probably not evil just really fucking dumb. I still think hes illiterate. Try to find a vid of him reading ANYTHING. Cant find it. Not that illiterates are dumb some are quite smart just not in this case.
I don’t find anything Kanye does to be ground-breaking or innovative…and his voice annoys me to no end…just another glossy entertainer who knows he can make headlines by saying “controversial” shit…
I don’t think he is awesome. I think he is a jerk. The Grammy Awards is a stupid event but he was there and continues to go so he is stupid right along with it. If someone is going to go along with stupid, they should at least acknowledge that they are part of the sham and not insult those that do win the stupid awards. The only way to be cool at the Grammys is to not be there and then when they show you “via satellite” you tell them to screw themselves and to give the stupid award to Kanye so he can shove it up his ass.
I wish someone would do that.
That would be awesome if one year all the nominees just boycotted and said to give the award to Kanye. He’d have no speeches to interrupt and nothing to complain about. He’d just be standing there on stage with his dick in his hand looking like a moron.
I really hope South park does an episode like that^
I don’t watch the Grammy’s, and wasn’t even aware they were happening. I remember reading a Rick Rubin quote about how he was involved in music to express himself, not to win awards, and he specifically shook his head ‘no’ when asked if he’d be attending the Grammy’s.

You do realize GWB and his mom aren’t the same person, right?

I agree also; I forgot who the historical figure is who said (totally paraphrased) “never attribute anything to malice that can otherwise be attributed to simple incompetence,” but that more or less sums it up.
When all’s said and done, W was an ‘evangelical’ busy-body type who felt it was his duty to help “save” the world. This impulse is actually a heresy within traditional Christianity, but whatever - he felt that “something has to be done” but I feel really had no viable long-term plan to go along with that sense of urgency.
His opponents didn’t do themselves any favors by making this cartoon image of him as a racist tyrant like Hitler (I used to ride a train in Prague every morning that had “BUSCH [sic] = HITLER” proudly graffti’d on it). For all his failures, the guy apparently strove for good relations with the U.S. Hispanic population, gave a lot of his weekly addresses in both Spanish and English etc.

And the current Republicans are dumbfounded at why they don’t get the Hispanic vote anymore. “All we’re doing is not making any sort of distinction between Latinos and wanting to kick out all the immigrants and their children. Why did they stop loving us?”

There are some Republican leaders like John McCain who were trying to sign an ‘amnesty’ for illegal immigrants way back in 2007, before Obama attempted the same last year.
But I can only guess at the intentions behind that kind of thing. Some would say it’s done out of genuine altruism and goodwill, others would say that the Repubs’ big business donors want an influx of potential strike-breakers and scab labor.
Personally I think everyone would be a lot happier if the plug were pulled on the DEA’s hopeless War On (some) Drugs, thus perhaps making countries south of the border a little safer to live in, or at least no longer violent narco-states that everyone wants to flee for a better life in el Norte. Sad that so few politicians on either side of the aisle are ready to contemplate this route.

I do realize that. I was just saying if that’s what he grew up with from his parents or at least his mother it’s probably not so far fetched.
I would also like to live in the Superdome because I could eat all the hotdogs and nachos and cotton candy I wanted. Plus you get to watch a football game or two every week! Why do those negroes have to get so uppity all the time. It’s reverse racism, I tell you. How many football domes were the white people given to live in? Yeah, that’s what I thought.

The whiteys probably lived at New Orleans’ luxurious polo stadium.

Sure. You’ve seen my physique right?[/reply]
Yes, Olsen. We’ve ALL seen your physique. It’s kind of hard to miss when you post nude selfies every day. We don’t even have to go on gay porn sites to have it shoved in front of our faces.
I’m not sure what that has to do with living in the Superdome, though.
