My intentions aren’t to start shit with this topic…it’s an honest question…
it’s clear that Al is in need of money. that’s why Ministry is back on another tour, and ticket prices are pretty damn high nation wide. he recently did a video promoting the upgrade to the VIP package (more money ) .
he’s had health issues. a divorce. it’s been alluded to that he’s touring because he HAS to tour, to survive. Ministry is all he’s got left to make money, and he’s milking that cow till the last drop (can’t blame him … )
would asking for a kickstarter be an act of desperation? (or at least, looked at as one, which may be an ego issues with some) it can be used for medical bills, or money towards a new album of a side project, or whatever. it’s not an uncommon act these days.
two examples I can think of are: a former wrestler set up one for two of his fellow former wrestlers who needed surgeries. I think they were asking for like, $14,000 over the span of a month…and they reached that goal in less than 2 weeks both times.
one going on now was set up by someone in the record collecting community on youtube to help a fellow youtuber pay for a medical bill. in about a week the amount donated is already half way to the goal…and it’s not even from an extremely popular person on youtube relatively speaking.
so…would this be a good idea for Al? would you donate? (I’m guessing his legions on facebook would…I checked out the comments recently…yikes )
Al is a great artist. He has an amazing body of work and can put together a great team and put on a great show.
But it’s basically . . . the same damn show that we’ve seen for the last 3-5 tours . . . for twice the price.
I’m stoked for it regardless, because I always havea blast, but most casual and even semi-passionate Ministry followers or fans are not going to be particularly moved.
Artists can get on their “I do what I want and if you don’t like it, piss off” horse all they want, but if they’re not pulling in the sales that they want to see . . . . well, maybe they should start actually giving a shit what the ticket-buyers want to see and hear.
I saw a guy post a fake setlist on FB the other day with a bunch of songs like Supernaut, Burning Inside, Breath, Supermanic Soul, etc. . . . . people went absolutely apeshit for it . . . . and were crushed to see that of course they’d been punked.
Wanna make money selling cake? . . . instead of only selling kale and onion flavor, try a little chocolate and vanilla.
Wanna sell tickets to your concert? . . . play songs that people might actually want to hear. Or have a changing setlist so people truly don’t know what to expect.
Crowdfunding? Yeah, I agree with whoever said that no one would likely expect to actually get whatever perk they pitched in for. And besides that, it’s hard for many people to give a shit about someone when that someone has consistently told them, either explicity in word or implicity in action, that he certainly doesn’t give a shit about them.
I’m fine with crowd funding or kick starting for actual product development. If it is money to get equipment to tour, or to put out an album, or whatever, I think that is appropriate. I can’t support the idea of doing it just get some money so that hey can afford to pay for his everyday crap. I’ve got my own bills to pay but I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to start a kickstarter campaign to raise some money to pay off my house.
I pretty much agree with Gunnar. Al refuses to really care what the fans want and does whatever he wants. I’m down with that as long as he can support himself that way. But, if he wants dollars and loyalty from fans then he should cater to those fans a bit more. How hard is it to re-learn 5 or 6 of those old songs and play them on tour?
not to go totally off topic but i don’t can’t understand why the setlists are so shit these days when in past interviews he would often cite LORAH and Filth Pig as his favorite stuff he’s done. i guess he’s just trying to cater to meathead metal dudes instead of Ministry fans.
I agree with everyone. Al basically even said something recently along the lines of “I do what I want, not what the fans want” . Fair enough dude. But if it bites him in the ass, then so be it.
I like Al and I wish him the best, but I’m not going to give him free money. He’s touring, he’s releasing his archival material via Cleopatra, and I have to assume he’ll be selling Dubweiser, Lard, and whatever that noise project he was working on is called when (if) they come out.
In other words, I’d like to keep our relationship on a business level - he creates something, I pay for it.

its not a problem to rework something from lorah to be more guitarish or metal-like, and not a problem to speed up and the stuff from filth pig just a little bit
i think case is that maybe he doesnt get full amount of money playing the WB-era songs live? or maybe he even has to pay them to play them live (i know for example mccartney does, he has to pay sony when he performs some of songs that he wrote, cuz they own them or something)
i mean back in the days when he released Rantology, someone asked him why is it so limited in the represented material, he replied it was some rights/ownership conflict and it limited him in the choice of the tracks to remix
or maybe its about royalties… much better to play stuff that only you are credited for, and was recorded by you and on YOUR label/company
i am not knowledgeable in these areas, but who knows
I’m not an expert, but I think live performances are free game. I think the only way there could be a lawsuit is if they release it and don’t pay songwriting royalites to anyone involved.
WB owns the copyright on the album versions only. Al could technically perform and release any version of said tracks that he wants, as long as it isn’t the exact same mix that appears on a WB release. (Hence, how he’s been able to get away with said tracks on Rantology, Cover albums and past few live releases)
He probably would need to pay royalties to Paul, Bill or anyone else involved, unless he bought their rights from them.
I heard this second hand and don’t REALLY know for certain, but from what I understand . . .
– You can PERFORM whatever songs you want.
– But if you RELEASE (concert DVD, live album, etc.) those songs, you’ll likely have to pay royalties to anyone with writing credits.
Original studio tracks come with, typically, royalties attached for the actual performers/musicians. I’m told this is why you often see bands do an almost identical re-recording of a song or remove the guitar or drum track (if possible) from the original and replace it. It’s a spiteful move done so that they don’t have to pay someone that they’re pissed at.
This isn’t a jab at Al, really, as I’ve not seen him make any plea for the public or fanbase to help him with his desired lifestyle, but I will say this, regardless, regarding someone’s refusal to perform songs that people actually LIKE AND WANT just because they might have to pay someone else . . . .
If the reason you’re not rich is because you can’t stand the thought of someone else making some money or getting rich along with you . . . you have no right to cry. If you have means to be successful and you refuse to do it because of your bitterness and hatred for others, EAT SHIT. You deserve be poor.
I consider the money I dropped on FBTE, the Lost Gospels, the 12" Singles reissue (with the silly tote bag), the FBTE tour tix and VIP, and the forthcoming Trax! Box to be well more than anything I may contribute to a kick starter. Depending on the “cause,” and my mood, doubt I would give any more than $20.
That does sound fun, DJ.
I kind of always wanted to hunt a pig jungle warrior style like the Lord Of The Flies kids. Sharpened spear, just running through the jungle, trying to skewer that oinky bastard.

You’ll never catch that sucker. Ya gotta jump outta a tree like Rambo.
No, I would not give him even a nickel. I supported this bastard long enuff. 5 concerts…purchased every album even the generic metal ones …I am a disenchanted fan cuz he let me down like he did with most of his fans.
This tour could’ve been amazing…he should finally do a real farewell tour playing the earlier songs and not just the industrial ones…I’m talking about taking out his synth pop arsenal and finally putting it to proper use.
Can you imagine how many fans would go totally apeshit if Al did Everyday is Halloween live? That’s just one awesome example of the many examples I can assert right now but I’ll just get to the bottom line.
He is very lazy and his brain is fried from rampant incessant substance abuse…the best he could do is exactly what ur getting. Boring generic thrash metal and a couple of old favorites like NWO & Just one Fix…oh golly gee, Al’s doing So What & Thieves too…I almost shit myself with glee! …NOT!
Al is incapable of doing anything else cuz he’s spent, he’s all dried up and his voice is so Fucking horrible now…God it’s not even funny, he’s sounds so fucking bad and he admits it himself that he hates playing live but does it cuz he’s gotta pay the bills… Good thing for him his muscle memory still works or else he’d really be fucked.
A person of his living legend status should be worth at least 50 million but Al Jourgensen is lucky if he has remotely close to 500,000. Most of it went up his nose, thru his veins, booze & cigarettes ain’t cheap, the 2 divorces, child support, Texas busts of mid-90s put a nasty dent into him, lotsa whores (ya think just cuz he’s a rockstar he gets laid for free).
Anybody who was involved with him business wise and even his friends know how terrible he is with money. 13th planet is riding on fumes and it would have never happened without the loan he got from his 2nd wife’s family.
Thank god for the early ministry or else I’d have no business being in this forum

So you seen to have everyone else’s life figured out…
Just hate it when someone so gifted and blessed like Uncle Dickwad pisses it all away…Paul Barker had great intuition, he witnessed first hand the self-destruction. Although Animositisomina has some visceral moments sonically & Al’s voice seems awesome as ever, he sang terribly live and there’s just no excuse for it except the obvious one. He was spiraling downward and got progressively worse until he began throwing up into the mic (metaphorically speaking)…this death metal garbage he regressed to is just shameful & generic…real trash like bottom of the barrel, man!
