Actually I think you’ll find Monks 1965 Peligro. 1966 Black Monk Time was released and there hasn’t been an alternative ass kickin album like it since.

I believe when the term “alternative” first came into vogue in a commercial radio sense, the representative bands were probably They Might Be Giants, The Pixies, and REM. And Faith No More. Maybe even the B-52s, although they were already around a long time, so I guess they were grandfathered in or something. Husker Du. Violent Femmes. The Smiths. The Cure. Jane’s Addiction. Yadda yadda yadda…
