Who do we believe for lyrics?

Al Or Warner Bros?
I think Warner Bros. may be in the know on this one for the simple fact that they have access to JUST the vocal tracks from the recordings. VS Al’s crack laced fermented bong resin memory (although I have not compared their lyrics to the CD just yet) Thus said here are the lyrics according to Warner Bros. for LAVA & Filth Pig. There’s lyrics for Gameshow and reload as well But I’m not posting them just yet. TIRED!!!

LAVA

Hot Lava come down this muggy coast. chokin under cover cause it don’t like the rain (oh yeah)
Hot lava cool down this fabulous town Flowin over it’s a ball and a chain!

Hot lava I know it is ready to come
But what the hell is this, lost and you’re found
Hot Lava comes out and some mole are lost
He wants nothin but to live underground

Big Kick a mule piston bag cotton mix mole are lost
Daddy and the people left behind
Big boiler makes hot and grey metal nuts
Boiler likes tiny pots two at a time

Filth Pig

Well, I start out younger in things than people start younger at.
And a thousand days and nights of getting overexposed.
Let someone ask, “How do you sleep at night a with the borrowed creeps from a broken past?”

You keep runnin’ away, it don’t matter how fast or long, you always wind up there.
another thousand pile ups into your fake name a poor addict fuckin’ ugly.
Some creepy guy keeps askin, “How the fuck do you sleep at night with a frozen dream and a borrowed hope that died?”

I keep singin’ this tale but the tale gettin’ bigger go figure!
A thousand more stories keeps the fires and flames alive.
So how the fuck do I dream at night
With the memories of a borrowed death, a guilty trial

Exactly where did you get these?

from the warner bros sheet music. songs include lava, filth pig, gameshow, and reload.
I compared them last night after i shut off the computer. they line up really nicely… I’m going with Warner Bros. I think they sound most like it.

These first two are official according to Al:

LAVA

Hot lava
Big monkey flow
Chokin’ on a color
Floating down like a rain

Hot lava
Cool down
Big travel every town
Roll it over with a ball and chain

Hot lava
On the always
Make ready to burn
What the hell is in your
Lost and your found?
Got lotta those time
Some owner lost
He wants nothin’ but the kick underground

Hot lava, lava

Big kick-a mule
Dipped in hot cotton
Make water like candy
And a fever like mine
Big boiler
Make rotten grey matter
Not spoiled like the child
Who pops them two at a time

Hot lava, lava

FILTH PIG

Well I started out younger at things that people start younger at
A thousand days and nights of getting overexposed
Then someone asks, “How do you sleep at night?”
With the borrowed dreams from a broken man

You keep runnin’ away don’t matter how far
You always wind up there
Another thousand pileups in the ugly name of morality
Fucking ugly, some creepy guy keeps asking
“How the fuck do you sleep at night?”
With a broken dream and a borrowed hope that died

Filth pig, filth pig
He sleeps with both eyes open
Filth pig, filth pig

You keep chasing this tail but the tail gets bigger go figure
A thousand more stories keep the fires and flames alive
So how the fuck do you dream at night?
With the memories of a borrowed death, the guilty lies
Filth pig, filth pig
He sleeps with both eyes open
Filth pig, filth pig

He sleeps all right because he’s a
Filth pig

And in a similar vein, got some great goodies in the mail yesterday. Should have some of them up tomorrow, if I get some time. Trust me, they’re cool. Probably the best non-musical thing I’ve run across from the band.

These first two are official according to Al:

Yeah I know, I’ve been to the “official lyrics” page too, BUT do you really trust Al’s burnt out memory or the transcribers from warner bros who had access to just the vocal track and most definately listened to it when transcribing the music?

What’s up Bisquit? No clues? just just phantom offerings?? come on tease us a little with a clue. Whadya get? Whadya get??
Late,
grmpysmrf

either way, these lyrics are far better than anything written by Al in recent years

As for the Filth Pig lyrics, neither is right. Over the years, Al’s actually changed a few of the lyrics to songs, albeit only slightly, so some of the “official lyrics” are a little off. As for Warner, these are the same guys that lifted the way incorrect early lyric transcriptions from this site for the Tapes Of Wrath DVD. I wouldn’t trust them at all. Here’s the lyrics to the album version of Filth Pig. The recent live versons will differ slightly, and probably be more in line with Al’s official transcriptions.

FILTH PIG

Filth pig

And the lyrics to Lava. Al left out the “come down” in the first stanza, otherwise it’s dead on. Warner butchered it. Almost as bad as those Engrish lyrics I posted from the Japaneese Work For Love 7" I posted a while a go.

LAVA

Hot lava
Come Down
Big monkey flow
Chokin’ on a color
Floating down like a rain

Hot lava
Cool down

The official Al lyrics make a lot more sense.
The Warner ones read like a cut-up poem.

Al Or Warner Bros?

Yeah, like they’d bust those out of the archives for a lyric sheet. They got some intern and had him spend 10 minutes transcribing from the cd, I’d be willing to bet.

Either way, I’m sure I’m not alone when I say Warner Bros. lyrics or not, Lava still makes absolutely NO fucking sense.
Maybe that’s why we all love it so much.

It’s not like they would bust it out it would already be out based on them transcribing all of the guitar tracks. I Don’t know, warner bros has written sounds pretty dam good when you listen to the album lyrics…
Late,
grmpysmrf

don’t believe Warner’s book, i’ll say that. If you have ever bought any guitar-tab books a lot of the time they contain mistakes in the lyric translations. After all they hire some one to do it.

If you bought the Nirvana ones back in the day you’d know what I was talking about.

They might get close or they might be WAY off target. As someone who IS that guy that does this for online fan sites (i’ve contributed here, and i’ve also done a lot of the jesu lyrics posted on the web) you have to remember to take it with a grain of salt. I try to be as accurate as I can, but I do it outta ‘respect & love’.

The best ones are from the artists themselves PERIOD. And even then, they still might contain some small errors, as often what people write down & sing have slight variations.

y’know i just A/B’d these to the songs, and yeah Warner’s job is pretty bad.

and I just realized Lava is about Heroin (Monkey, Mule, floating, etc) or it least it looks that way to me.

That’s what I was kinda thinking, and it makes sense, seeing as he was higher than most kites during this whole process.
Herion’s not terribly great, but you can’t deny it’s creative power.

y’know i just A/B’d these to the songs

what is this?

I thought they sounded pretty good
Late,
grmpysmrf

take lyrics set ‘A’ (warners) listen to the song, paying attention to the vocals, to see if the words match up.

repeat with lyrics set ‘B’ (Al’s) … etc.

so what i’m saying is Bisquito posted the ‘right’ ones.

Yeah, that was dead on. The only time I’ve had trouble figuring out Al was on Psalm 69…don’t know why, but I still don’t know what he’s saying on some of those songs.

Fun fact: "Lava’’ was the first song recorded for Filth Pig…

July 1st…1994!!! Took longer to record than Psalm.
