When SHOULD have Al retired Ministry?

after MIND, or after the release of the JESUS BUILD MY HOTROD single. definitly before PSALM69 since this album already was a disappointment. and this is coming from someone who was super exited about its release back in 1992. but it turned out to be a wannabe metal rock star album, yee-fucking-ha. weak.

I think Animositisomina/Paul leaving would have been fair enough to call it a day and maybe start a new project which was basically a thrash band as Ministry became.

Regardless i bet all of the hard-core “old skool” fans here who put shit pon Al still get that excited feeling of getting hold of a new Ministry release and listening to it for the 1st time (even though deep down they know they’ll be a little bit dissapointed!). I know i still do and although the last few albums have been average Ministry releases they have had their momments here and there.

Rio had 3 songs i thought were superb…“Rio”, “Lies Lies” and “Ass Clown”.

TLS for me has been “Lets Go”, “The Dick Song” and “TLS”.

These songs were fucking great and were refreshing reminders of the good old days.

I’m really hoping for another Lard album. Pailhead sounds interesting too…Revco i’m not too sure about…and the remixes i’ll definately steer clear of unless someone interesting is doing them.

You guys are answering the wrong question. The question you are answering is “When should you have stopped listening to Ministry.” There are still a lot of people out there who like what Ministry is putting out. I’m not one of them but I still love seeing them in concert so I am very thankful that they are still around. They might not be putting out new albums that sound like the old stuff… but they are still playing some of the old stuff at shows.

i like how the most intelligent thing in this thread being said (which is what i quoted here) went on totally ignored for more people (some) saying stuff like " twitch/mind was the best, they should have quit after that"

why the hell are you STILL talking about them if they haven’t put anything you have liked out since fucking TWITCH and/or MIND?

good god, get a new hobby.

why the hell are you STILL talking about them

did NOSTALGIA ever cross your mind? I like ministry and I artistically respect them for what they did up to 1991. and there is still a good enough reason to dig up material from that period. so your below comment seems almost comical wouldn’t it be such a crybaby outburst. [:P]

good god, get a new hobby.

totally missing the point. in their heyday in 1992 thousands wanted to see Ministry live. now it is hundreds at best. would I be in a band with such a declining fan interest I’d ask myself “damn, at what junction did I make a wrong turn”. and that is exactly the question that is being answered here from a fan (or former fan) perspective.

“…some whiners…” that’s a good one [laugh]

I would have been pretty upset had ministry broken up after MIND as I was addicted to what they put out. After PSALM I would have probably still cared since I was hoping for an upswing after a record that seemed to straight forward to me. Hell, even entering the sludge phase I was still trying to convince my friends that there is some good left in that band. but I was kidding myself and shortly after I stopped caring for them being a band any longer. naturally I kept an open ear on new releases, never expecting much and never being surprised by that artistic genius that was RAPE and MIND. at some point this all turned into nostalgia, couch potato style, like the gazillion people attending rolling stones shows. you might wanna explain to me how that qualifies to be ‘whining’.

“a bit disappointed”? i’m not an oldskool ministry fan, i started in 1999. but the moment i saw al saying “i’m makin’ a new rootin’ tootin’ record called rio grande blood which is harder faster and more bush bashing we sat through hundreds of his samples woo hoo more speech collages” in the interview, at that exact moment i just thought “this is it”. i’m not whining, let him do whatever he wants, if he wants to put out 3rd grade thrash metal, fine…

Rio had 3 songs i thought were superb…“Rio”, “Lies Lies” and “Ass Clown”.

i hate lieslieslies and especially ass clown and yellow cake. i like senior peligro a bit though… but whole album is just boring. did you notice they use the SAME FUCKING CROWD NOISE sample in every song? (even on some on Last Sucker)

TLS for me has been “Lets Go”, “The Dick Song” and “TLS”.

lets go i agree is ok track, but dick song is a copy of lieslieslies…

what i don’t understand is how people still talking about ministry PROGRESSING/CHANGING/EVOLVING, when 2004, 2006 and 2007 albums have all been just the same.

i’m waiting for mark prindle’s review of TLS, if he’s ever gonna bother do that.

i disagree with you sir. as un inspiring as the latest releases have been, i would have hated to see al try and shoe-horn himself into something the “masses” would like. i feel that if he was making music for others, and not for himself, it would be 10x worse than what we’re dealing with now.

nostalgia is defined as “1. A bittersweet longing for things, persons, or situations of the past.” so i guess no, i wasn’t thinking about that when i replied. but sweet jeebus, how many god damn threads do we need about this?

we get it. nu-ministry isn’t nearly as cool as mind/etc. we agree with you. but after 3 albums worth of the same threads, year after year, complaint after complaint, it’s stale as hell and boring to boot. and besides, who the hell are we to dictate what kinda music he puts out? the fans, yes yes, i know. if he wants to alienate his fans from 20 years ago, let him. and i stand by my statement of “get a new hobby”. bashing ministry on this forum is old news thanks to a dedicated and mostly intelligent selection of trolls and ne’er-do-wells. make some posts about bands that you don’t’ hate, and we’ll be going places worth going. i need some new music to listen to that isn’t bush oriented.

could we please move on and talk more about jesu ?

Yeah, the sheer volume of “How could Al do this to me?” posts on here is rather mind numbing. I miss the PIL/Big Black sounding elements of Ministry that seem to have vacated the premises too, but the new albums hardly seem like the penultimate fall from grace everybody is crying about. The new stuff is fine, it’s dumb sometimes but I don’t really care about the lyrics because Ministry was never really about the lyrics for me anyways. Hell, I used to love not having any
idea what they were saying. It was always much more about the sound and feel of the whole thing. Sure I miss the more experimental tracks like Golden Dawn or slow burners like Vex and Siolence, but Die in a Crash floats my boat so I’m happy. If I want to focus on lyrics I’ll go throw on a Leonard Cohen album. Though it seems like Cohen’s political views on a track like “Democracy” might ruffle too many feathers on this board. Snore.

[quote] did you notice they use the SAME FUCKING CROWD NOISE sample in every song? (even on some on Last Sucker)[quote]

I know what a lazy bastard Al is. He could have at least found different samples of crowd noise then he’d have more artistic integrity in my book.

And Mr Catgoat i believe you need to go here

He should not…TLS is fucking brilliant industrial shred-fest and because Uncle Al is getting better with age like a damn fine wine, he should keep the ball rolling on all things Ministry and beyond, baby!

Fuck retirement, the Ministry of Audio Warfare must continue to mutilate us forever more!

All the people on here saying the whiny crap that Jourgensen was better off retiring long ago are mentally deranged and seriously deserve to receive an honest beating of bludgeoning proportions.

You are all gut maggots with no guts, ya faggot ass fucking pansies! Shit, I love all the old Jourgensen material from his start to his Wax Trax days which includes all his terrific side projects and obviously I adore everything he’s done since. I’ve grown and evolved with him from his alleged abortion album With Sympathy (personal favorite of mine) all the way up to the current opus, TLS and I couldn’t be happier with the way things turned out for my Uncle Al and us Piss Ants Alumni.

You fuck heads up here in this forum who keep complaining are probably the first ones to grovel in front of Uncle Al when he throws down this Winter on the most relentless tour to ever come around in the history of music on this fucking earth, ya stupid dumb ass hypocrite fucks.
[mad][pirate][sly][shocked]

haven’t seen Ministry since the animosity tour, no intention to see them again. the only way I’d see them on this tour is if they throw in some real surprises- Twitch tracks, LORAH tracks. but, since that’s not happening, I can probably save the $40 or whatever it’ll cost.

Wasn’t that guy just straight out owned in some other thread?

Peace!
