Whats up with this?

In an interview with Paul Barker (its in the interviews section on this site under Eric Olsen at Blogspots circa 1993) he states;

“Lard is Al, me, Jeff Ward on drums and Jello Biafra on vocals. Pailhead was Al, Bill Rieflin on drums, and me on guitar and vocals. Currently Chris Connelly is the singer of the Revolting Cocks. Lead Into Gold is primarily my own thing. Acid Horse was Al, Chris and I with Cabaret Voltaire. Actually Acid Horse was PTP and Cabaret Voltaire because PTP was Al and Chris and me.”

He says he was vocalist and guitarist with Pailhead! Thats news to me. Or is there some reason for him saying this?

yea. pailhead vox sounds nothing like paul. probably a fuck-up in the interview.

Ian Mackay isnt it? Not sure if thats his name… but the guy from Fugazi.
Ermmm… and wasnt PTP chris or ogre on vox?

yep, PTP was Chris except the track Show Me Your Spine which was Ogre.

on an interesting sidenote, PTP was intended to become Al’s full time band, and hand Ministry over to Ion. Now THAT is something that’s hard to imagine…

I remember Al talking about that in an interview around '87 (in the Interview section). He sounded serious about PTP, like it was going to be something new and groundbreaking in music (hard to imagine by listening to existing PTP music). I also remember a recent interview with Ian Mackaye where Ian says he would do another Pailhead record with Al, but has never been asked. It’s a shame they didn’t record a full-length to follow up Trait.

1002

exactly, that was in one of those 1987 interviews…i’d love to have seen what Al would have continuned to do with PTP.

and full length Pailhead would have been awesome! that one Pailhead release seemed to have set the standard to what Al wanted to do with Ministry from that point on. I always thought that he had alot of LORAH recorded in 87 or so and then did some Pailhead (was the first Lard release in 87 too? ) and thought to himself :“shit, I can do alot with this sound” and went on and did the guitar oriented tracks on Land. And I think that’s what makes LORAH so perfect…it’s the half and half blend of electronics/guitars/samples/etc.

Lard’s ‘Power of Lard’ was released in 1989. I would also love the possiblity of more Pailhead, Trait is amazing and I continue to listen to it regularly. It definetly hinted at more guitars for Ministry, maybe Ian MacKaye is responsible for Ministry taking the turn they did! But seriously more Pailhead would be appreciated. Also wasnt ‘Apathy’ from the 1000 Homo DJ’S e.p. made in 87 aswell intended for release on LORAH but didnt fit in so it appeared on Supernaut instead.

Yep, Apathy and Better Ways were both recorded during the LORAH sessions. 2 of my favorite side project songs…especially Apathy because it originated from Eyes of Christ!
