Whats the deal with Same Old Madness?

Was this track suppost to be a single? I herd somewhere that it was suppost to have its own single , along with b-side track Never Ask For Nothing.

yes. on one of the bootlegs al announces it as “this one is called same old madness, it’s our next single”. it even has its own video. many many thanks to SKoT user from prongs.org, he ripped it in very good quality.

someone also stated that single got scrapped when al suddenly moved to arista.

A good example of early Ministry. It’s too bad they didn’t use it on With Sympathy in lieu of one of the (presumably label mandated) sillier songs.

SOM was great, one of my favorite early tracks along with Love Change. I wish I had a nice recording of SOM, I’ve only got some crap live version. Perhaps one day these will see release (probably after Al passes from this mortal coil).

i have a good quality studio version, ripped from the video. not perfect, but very nice.

Decent song, definitely would’ve been a better choice for WS than “What He Say”.

1002

The promise of piles of cash sometimes works better than the threat of shovels.

The song is not bad except for those stupid laser beam sound effects.

Agreed. It was disappointing when I heard the final mix . I was expecting the producer (Iain Burgess IIRC) to just use about half of the little fills and kind of subject them to some Eno-esque treatment and keep them in the background. But to my chagrin, all the little diddley notes were there and up front when Iain and Al finished the mix.

I never liked the way it turned out at all.
