What was your first concert?

Gerda might win this one. That’s pretty dope.

marilyn manson in 99, NIN the following year

What? I always assumed you were about the same age as me.

Ramones. 1989. I was 15 and nobody at the gig beat me up. Much to my parents surprise.

Was that the final tour where they played everything at like five times the speed they usually played???

I’m 28 in a few weeks. I wanted to see the hooplah with the Manson thing, the NIN show was down to Ozzfest (jeez) and the Chili Peppers, which I only wanted to see because they were rumored to have At the Drive In as an opener.

No. In fact, I believe Ramones were gigging up until '95.

It was the tour for the Brain Drain album if memory serves. Very good gig too. They were listening to a lot of thrash and hardcore around this time and it showed in the way they performed some of their old classics - totally revamped versions.

Peligro’s right. They toured into 95. Their last tour was the “audios amigos tour.” some of their concert shirts had cartoon dinosaurs on them ( I thought was appropriate)

I think they did tour one more time in 97 but that was it and it wasn’t in support of an album or anything.

'95 was a fun gig.
Late,

I saw loads of bands in pubs when i was younger, but the first truly big gig i went to was the Reading Festival in 1992, when I was 16 - Nirvana’s last UK gig, ever.

How’s this for a line up?

Nirvana
Nick Cave
Mudhoney
Teenage Fanclub
L7
Beastie Boys
Bjorn Again
Pavement
Screaming Trees
The Melvins

There were obviously other days, bands and stages, but that was where it all began for me.

Ministry with Sepultura/Helmet support, 1992.

At Universal Amphitheatre? I was there!

Nice one.

Awesome…Ministry were probably the best live band in the world at that stage.

The same. Such a sick show. Went out and bought Sepultura Arise and Helmet Meantime CDs after the show.
Al was so lively, pushin’ that giant bone altar around on the wheels and knocking it over.

The live production value seemed to peak here, thinking they were given more money to play with. Maybe it was because I was younger but the live lights/videos stood out from future shows.

My first show was Pantera in 1994 with Crowbar opening. I was never a huge fan of Pantera, but I have to say, if you are going to be welcomed to the concert experience, Pantera is as wild as it gets.
I will always remember leaving the show and actually thinking Crowbar sounded better live. Their slow, doom laden metal came across much better than Pantera’s furious sound.

Radiohead, 1992, Pablo Honey Tour… can’t believe they came to my shitty little college town, but then again they were nowhere near as huge as they are today despite having the “Creep” single on heavy MTV rotation.

My second concert… Billy Joel [laugh]

That was my parents doing.

Sepultura at Festival Hall in 1993. Next was Faith No More at the same venue a few weeks later. A few weeks after that I saw Ween live. A few weeks after Ween I saw the thrash band Annihilator with some friends from school.

It was a busy first few months when I first started going to gigs.

first gig i went to was black sabbath at preston guildhall in 1978, support band was van halen who blew sabbath off stage, i think ozzy was sacked a few weeks later[cool]

Just wait until truckmanlarry starts posting.
