The more scientifically ‘astute’ among us may scoff at this, as it’s obviously been ‘dumbed down’ for the likes of…well, me for instance…and I’m sure this only scratches the surface of the surface of the surface but it still makes my head spin.
Leading scientific theories suggest that we are living in a simulation which is a silmulation inside a simulation inside a simulation inside a simulation inside a…well you get the idea.
If true then our existence is one of trillions in a long line of artificial environment realities kickstarted by a ‘super race’ at the beginning (or the end, depending on which way you look at it) of time.
But wouldn’t that make time as we know it, merely an illusion. From our individual viewpoints we have the illusion of time passing - by the recording of random events in out immediate environment - but then if this reality is simulated then everything that will ‘happen’ has happened’ as it’s just a program which was created inside a program created inside a program…
And if this is what is - how does that explain our subconscious? Does our sub concious not exist outside our perceived ‘reality’?
Anyone else able shed a little insight into any of this? I probably won’t sleep tonite.
your post (and mine) only holds up under the conditions that we create artificial intelligence.
It goes something like this…
If we create artificial intelligence, chances are we are going to create a sim program incorporating that artificial intelligence…
So, if that is the case, what are the odds that we are the first beings to create artificial intelligence??? The odds are stacked against us that we are not the first beings to create said artificial intelligence. there’s an actual equation you can find that puts it at like 30% chance that we are the first but more than likely we are a sim of a sim of a sim of a sim endless (kinda like having mirrors facing each other on opposite side of a room, the reflection goes on forever)
But since we have yet to create artificial intelligence there’s nothing to worry about. So until that time, sleep easy!

If what goes on in our subconscious is a glimpse at what the REAL world is, then I’m offin’ myself tonight. I don’t wanna “live” in a world of free-form geometrical shapes and silhouette men with cylindrical heads.
[laugh]
Mental illness aside, I’ve wondered this for pretty much most of my life, since I understoof the concet of fantasy. I’ve had nightmares about being plugged into an electrical grid since I was a little kid. I’ve, um… “seen” outside myself a couple times, if that makes any sense. I’ve often lost days of sleep pondering why life is only seen through my perspective. Shit like this scares me, man.
Yeesh.
Whoever’s programming my reality must be one unimaginative jerkoff, though… who’s shift is occasionally interrupted by a madman with epilepsy.
I think this topic is interesting when explored in a narrative sense, like Inception. But our reality is our waking hours, no doubt. The tendency to put if off as something else leads to problems and is generally a waste of time if taken really seriously.
I like this def. but if you look at it deeply it doesn’t hold up. For example, the voices a schizophrenic hears are not real and they get those during waking hours.

Schizophrenics suffer from a neurological disorder, their understanding of reality may be effected as a consequence. That is not to say however that schizophrenics cannot understand what is wrong with them when they have moments of clarity. The thing is reality (the organic and inorganic environment, the atmosphere and all of the Earth’s natural processes) exists whether we understand/accept it or not. The anthropocentric view that our concepts of our environment determine what is real and what is not is just for us humans, the world goes on regardless.

That’s pretty fuckin’ thorough!
Did you come up with these Defs or did you steal them from somewhere? either way, brilliant!

We’re only skimming the surface here, really.
If I was thieving I’d admit it. Anyone worth listening to is usually informed by special thinkers so I don’t think anyone can really get away with claiming original concept anymore, maybe an original slant or something.
