What do you think?

Since we all have an eclectic taste in music, I thought I’d share some stuff I did years ago (10 to be exact). Here are a few MP3s of some things that I like and don’t like that I did.

This something that was recorded live (on a tascam 4-track) at a practice we had. I wrote the song, sang, played guitar. There was also a second guitar player on this one (he plays the second solo).

This was a fun one. I recorded it in a studio in college. The “samples” you hear are actually a hand-held tape recorder, and was put to tape in one pass. (In 94, there was no way in hell I could afford a sampler). I wrote the song, recorded it, manipulated the mini-tape, and played guitar.

This was one that was recorded live at Woodland studios in Nashville. I later overdubbed the vocal and a second guitar at MTSU. It was supposed to be your basic “pop song”. I never was a big fan of the drummer’s stuff (he always seemed to want to get to flashy - while I was a 4/4 guy). I played guitar and did the vocals.

Lastly, this one was also recorded at Woodland studios in Nashville. It is completely live - no overdubs. Once again you can see that this one was mainly driven by my drummer at the time, but I did actually like it. I played guitar and co-wrote it.

Most of this stuff seems pretty out dated. But I had a great time doing it. Remember, this was circa 93 - 95.

Hey Slacklove,

I’m not much of a connaisseur of that type of music, but I have to say that it sounds really well composed! Very professional (the melodies, the elaborate drumming, etc.) Definitely not the three-chord-wonder type of stuff that makes it on MTV these days.

Oh, how I wish I had my own band! It would basically be a boy version of LADYTRON! hehehe

thanks splinterhead8,

i had a lot of fun doing it, and i’ve got hours of this stuff. i more favor the first group of players than the ladder 3. the drumming on the other gets a bit much (for me). we never used samplers, click tracks, or keyboards so i can understand why its a bit of a departure from what most of us enjoy. then again what most people play isn’t what they listen to.

Shack black sounds very Dead Kennedy’s the music For sure not so much the vocals. I could see myself listening to this 10 years ago. Didn’t have time to listen to the other stuff
not a bad job

By the way, is that you in the picture, Slacklove?

that’s Ogre…lol
I thought so, but are those kitty ears?

I THOUGHT that might be Ogre! At the same time, I thought it might be someone else. I wonder what Ogre looks like now…
