what are you READING right now?

Finished the Dark Tower Series from King last year and heard that Ron Howard was working on adapting the Films into a trilogy of sorts…kind of wish JJ Abrams would take the reigns. Getting ready to sink my teeth into Van Gogh’s Letters to Theo.

So, I finished “The Stand”, liked it- not surprising, I usually easily go for the “world ends, handful of scraggly survivors” type books.

also finished Pahlaniuk’s “Invisible Monsters”, it was okay- I think I liked it more than “Snuff” and “Haunted”, but not quite up to “Fight Club” standards- definitely can’t touch “Survivor” which is definitely his best, doubt he’ll ever top it.

About halfway through “The Dark Half” now. Seems like the only books in the house I haven’t read yet are the GF’s collections of Stephen King and Laurell K. Hamilton’s slutty vampire books- never did care for vampires and I’ve known Laurell personally for over ten years now and have still managed to never open one of her books, so it looks like I’ll be on King for a while…

REALLY think the trendy vampire shit is ridiculous and needs to die off. So gay. However, if you want to read vampires done RIGHT (read: more like a zombie outbreak) check out Guillermo del Toro’s series he is writing with Chuck Hogan, “The Strain”. It’s BRUTAL.

I agree. Vampires are gay.

Now reading “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” and Frommer’s “Guide to Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine”.

Game of Thrones

Catgoat, did you see the finale of Game of Thrones? It felt like a let down to me, especially after the intensity of the penultimate episode. Though it still had tits and dragons so it wasn’t all bad I guess.

east of eden. for fun.

Reading sucks. Books are for people that can’t afford cable.

i will give that last one a pass.

I can afford it.

Not all of us can afford tvs in the shitter, Gunnar. The back of the shampoo bottle gets old fast.

HAHAHA!!! Fair enough.

There’s an air freshener bottle at work that I’ve just about memorized over the last 10 years. It’s an epic tale of odor counteractants CFC’s and neutralizing agents . . . .

my own notes.

It’s taken me like five years to arrive at this conclusion, but motherFUCK Ayn Rand.

read lolita.

5 years? Took me about 30 pages of atlas!
Late,

The Fountainhead was the book that made me pull my head outta my near-autistic 18-year-old ass and got me to start doing things because FUCK IT THAT’S WHY, so I can’t TOTALLY hate on the broad.

I genuinely dig Anthem, because I can see a world like that as a last-ditch effort to prevent killing each other, kinda like a worldwide version of that one Shamalamalon movie, and I’m all for digging up relics of the past and trying to make them work while giving your backwards society a FUCK YOU THAT’S WHY and running off into the woods to enjoy electricity and teenage girls.

But Atlas Shrugged.

Man.

I like the book as a story about a quest for something BETTER than all this, and as a metaphor for going against the current of shit and doing what you want because WHY THE FUCK NOT THAT’S WHY… but Jesus, I fucking HATE the book as a platform for a belief/agenda that more people than I’m comfortable with consider legitimate and GOOD.

Dunno if I was talking Rand or the Bible right now.

Her books are good, if often enraging, stories. Just that.

Seriously. The revelation that one of my mentors in my adult life was just some hypercapitalist bitch who REALLY needed to get laid is a pretty jarring one, guys.

Lolita wins.

It’s always unfortunate to hear young people reading Ayn Rand instead of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

But as Icepick relays, smarter peeps generally turn away from Rand. Rightfully so. She’s a rat’s arse.

Are all Republicans either god freaks or Rand fuckers. I know there has to be more than just those two types but they never show up.

read lolita.

Hmmm… maybe I’ll do it.

Just finished Animal Farm by Orwell.

So, I finished “The Stand”, liked it- not surprising, I usually easily go for the “world ends, handful of scraggly survivors” type books.

Have you read “On the Beach” ? Great book, haven’t seen the old movie, the newer showtime only version was boring as fuck. great great book though.

Just starting Feast of Crows, 4th game of thrones book, or SoFaI if you prefer.

if your King collection includes Night Shift, those are some GREAT short stories. Not as good as Clive Barkers Books of Blood, imho.
