I take an overly cautious approach to gaming - it’s somewhat like the Amish belief that some technology can be permitted so long as it’s a couple generations behind whatever is presently in use. I know that if I make any time investment in video games, particular ones with lots of “sandbox” quality to them, I’m going to get hooked and just not get any writing projects done whatsoever.
So, occasionally I open up my MAME OSX arcade simulator to get some blasts from the past: I especially enjoy ROMs of the old Williams coin-op games like Robotron 2084, Defender, and Smash TV, and more recently some of the Japanese “bullet hell” or “danmaku” shooters for their pure psychedelic quality.
I do seem to stop by and visit friends whenever they’re on a gaming binge, though, so I’ve been entertained by countless hours of Saints’ Row IV and Minecraft recently. Good background watching for drinking and decompressing.

Totally. I’ve held onto all of my old consoles over the years and try to keep at least one new game and one older game in the same rotation at all times. It could be partial nostalgia, but I like to think that having different gaming prospectives is a good brain exercise or something. But yeah, too much gaming can be a distraction. I’m backed up on music projects and video games certainly aren’t helping with that.

I think if I really wanted to go full-on with nostalgia I’d try to hunt down the games that I played on the Apple IIGS (!!!) as a kid. Many were just games on floppy for the even older Apple IIE, but I had to rely on these since 3rd party software support for that machine was not very good.
I remember whiling away countless hours on “meander around and try to figure things out” games like Below the Root and King’s Quest IV. And surrendering my life to RPG-style material like Bard’s Tale.
Finishing up Dishonored, which I bought in the Steam summer sale.
Then I’ll play the newest chapter from Tales of the Borderlands.
Then I’m just gonna sit back and wait for Fallout IV.
I am a PC gamer who opened up to console in 2009. So, I do both. I have a PC at home that is pretty much my gaming machine (for all practical purposes) and an xBox one. The xbox 360 is now in the attic. I stick to FPS on my computer and most everything else on my xBox. You simply cannot beat 5.1 gaming.
I love gaming, always have since I was a wee little guy. I’m a little bummed because lately games just aren’t holding my interest. I’m hoping something new will come out to change all that. Last games that really got me fired up were Skyrim and GTA5.

archive.org has lots of old games on there - the rub is that many of them require a joystick interface and most of them won’t let you save your progress.
Mostly FTL and almost done with Valdis Story.
I finished the new X-Com a while back and was surprised they actually did a good job remaking it. Debating whether to give the new King’s Quest a shot.
Another thread of relevant information. [:)]
Been Sm4sh-ing since October. The 1.10 patch is pretty crazy so far, and the newcomers are lots of fun. Every patch seems to make my otherwise low tier mains a bit better every time lol
I’ve sunk about 80 hours into Binding of Isaac: Rebirth in the past three months. Rogue Legacy has about a third of that. I really like pick-up-and-play roguelikes because I REALLY like traditional “grind your ass into the dirt” roguelikes. Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup is prolly my most consistently played game of all time.
I got the Steam versions of Final Fantasy IV and the After Years during Summer Sale, and I am appalled at them, especially IV. They simply ported the DS version to mobile and THEN to PC, so it’s spaghetti code and awful blown up resolution that dips to 15 FPS for zero discernable reason.
Whatever. As long as SQEX makes enough money to localize Dragon Quests and Bravely Defaults, I’ll deal with it.
I got bit by both the Etrian Odyssey and Persona bugs almost simultaneously, and my life got fucked over at the beginning of the year when Persona Q was released (which is basically both series put together, and is as orgasmic as you might think). I just picked up EO Untold 2 a couple days ago, but haven’t played it yet due to real-life things coming this week that I don’t want to unwittingly pas on because I got autistically focused on dungeon-crawling for days on end.
Zeboyd Games announcd some seriously good news this E3, so I’ve been replaying their catalog. Anyone with a fondness for SNES/Genesis-era JRPGs should buy the Breath of Death VII/Cthulu Saves the World double pack (It’s usually three bucks on Steam, but sometimes goes on sale for like fifty cents!!!).
I’m also stoked on the forthcoming Fire Emblem games, so every so often I’ll run through Awakening again (a really easy game to break over your knee if you know what you’re doing, even on the hardest difficulties).
I like vidjya gaems and fuckin animu I’m a big gay idiot weeb fcuk dawg
Been trying to finish up The Witcher 2 tho. I’m about half way through and I’ve had the game for a year or two lmao.
Also some Euro Truck Sim 2 which i loaded with mods and crashes constantly. Just a reminder to back up your profile if you’re gonna mod the crap out of your game.
I’d get killed at Smash Bros. these days but every time it is mentioned I get that urge to play. Great game.
Didn’t know about Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, added it to the Steam wishlist. Looks good. I forgot that I had Rogue Legacy on GOG, just tagged that for next to play.
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup looks pretty cool too.
Hoping this turns out good:

Bloodstained is my most hyped game-to-be right behind Cosmic Star Heroine. I fucking love IGA-vanias, dude.
The jury’s still out on whether BoI: Rebirth is better than vanilla at this point, but I like it a lot regardless. (With the release of Rebirth, they actually updated the original with tons of new content, too. Anyone without either could do worse than ponying up the 20 bones to get both.)
A friend of mine returned from a trip to Japan and gifted me with boxed copies of the Super Famicom Final Fantasy titles. I desperately want to play them, but I don’t have a modded SNES or SFC, nor do I read anything more than basic kanakata. They look magnificent on display though. In Japan, SFC game boxes were exactly the same as VHS tape boxes, and they came with plastic inserts that hold the games and manuals rather than the flimsy cardboard trash that came in the awkward-shaped SNES boxes we heathens in the States got. They all have the Amano artwork on them, too <3

I recently realized that my PS2 still works, so I’ve been busting this one out mainly for Final Fight.
