12 Bar Blues - Scott Weiland

THe wife bought that a while ago. How do you like it? Sounds like he’s trying to be a tom waits character if I remember correctly. Not bad but nothing new.

It always struck me as more of a Bowie influenced album. Too bad his second solo cd wasn’t as good. He’s also got a live solo album from the last tour coming out. It’s only 10 or so tracks with barbarella being the only song from the first cd. I saw the recent tour for the new cd, but missed the first cd tour on account of scott getting arrested that morning in NYC… good times. oh he’s got a autobiography coming out soon too. Hopefully if he doesn’t hold back, it’l be a really good read.

I’d love to see his take on the Velvet revolver fall out, because on all of the stuff he’s said Vs. what the other members have said… I don’t think Scott has a leg to stand on! He did NO meet and greets and had crappy stage presence at the 2 shows we saw. that right there already supports what slash and other members were saying about him, not being in it for the fans.

But we’ll see. Yea, if I remember right the wife liked cd1 better than cd 2 as well! Maybe I’ll give it a spin myself later tonight and jog the old memory!

Melvins “Bootlicker”

when scott did his last solo tour i made the mistake of waiting to see if he’d come out after the show… I was bored and had nothing much to do and the place was actually close to my house so i figured fuck it (translation i’m a loser) and everybody in the band came out and mingled and talked to whomever was there and scott just rushed right to the bus…
but honestly i’m not surprised. even at HIS shows people still yell shit like “junkie.” or “stop shooting up and get on stage” before he comes on between acts. eh people are fucked up.
btw his (ex)wife just wrote and put out a book called “fall to pieces”

Not sure what to say about the VR fallout to be honest. In all honesty, it was really just a matter of him not getting along with them, and them got getting along with him. They had a decent two albums with him (which I finally heard for the first time recently…). Personally though, i’d rather him in STP. Far more better songs imo. I’m probably way biased though since i’ve been familiar with STP since the early nineties.

As far as his solo albums go. 12 Bar Blues is certainly a very interesting listen. I wouldn’t compare it to Tom Waits at all either. Bowie? Maybe, but I dunno. It’s pretty “out there”. Not saying Bowie hasn’t done any weird stuff in his day (outside, etc.), but this album is just bizarre, but oddly enough it works when knowing full well what kind of state of mind the guy was probably in when he made it. And that was actually the first time I had ever heard it, so my opinion isn’t necessarily so solid.

On the other hand though, his second album, “Goloshes”, or whatever the hell it’s called is pretty mediocre. There’s some good songs there, but they can’t make up for the whole. From some of the reviews i’ve seen of it, he’s totally caught some flack for his “fame” cover, which I actually don’t really mind. He almost sounded like Bowie on that one, and i’ll take my hat off to that. But album as a whole, it’s terrible.

yeah and all the sniping that went on in the press. I think really it was Slash Duff and Dave are all clean and Scott didn’t do the drugs that Matt did so it was really just nothing in common.

I wouldn’t say better songs, it’s just that STP is better suited for Scott’s style. But still Scott is a better choice than the two singers Slash got for his snake pit records. I really couldn’t tell ya’ who should front velvet revolver. Perhaps axl but that’ll never happen. Slash really needs to get himself a decent frontman. forget stardom forget credits somebody who can sing and match that style of band work.

I realize it’s not everyone’s noise but the band Tesla got their lead man off of a call into a radio station; Jeff Keith’s voice completely fits that band. They didn’t care he was a nobody, he could sing, he fit, they hired him. VR needs to do some shit like that!

I’m probably way biased though since i’ve been familiar with STP since the early nineties.

No way, I agree but for obviously (Slash is a guitar god and makes no bad songs!) different reasons.

My wife adores 12 bar blues (Just asked her about it) she says it’s not waits and she’s only familiar with bowie singles (which is more than me) and doesn’t think it sounds like bowie either.

But album as a whole, it’s terrible.

I know nothing of album #2

If you were to ask Axl what he thought of the VR guys, it’d probably be the same as Scott. But, on paper, the guys from GnR and the former of singer of STP sold records. STP and GNR sold a shit-ton of albums. I like both VR and STP though. Think I like STP more though because they took chances and went “out there” when you wouldn’t expect it. No one probably expected the Tiny Music album. That was a total turn elsewhere after Core and Purple. Love the album, but I wouldn’t argue with anyone who hated it just because it came from total left-field.

Solo album no. 2 was just whatever. I’ve heard worse.

In the longrun. If you were to ask Axl what he thought of the VR guys, it’d probably be the same as Scott.

Yeah, but that’s because Axl’s an asshole. At least Scott has an excuse; he’s all messed on drugs! Axl is just messed up.
