Dita von Teese (ex-wife) has said in an interview after the divorce that they never called each other by their real names, even in private.
I mean his real identity now is Marilyn Manson. The only reason his legal name is still Brian Warner is probably because of all the legal shit, royalties etc. etc.
Here is a good quote regarding this:
Marilyn Manson - “I think Iggy Pop said it best when he said “Hey, listen, I fucking earned the right to be called Iggy Pop, you’re not going to call me James Osterberg, so fuck you.” And I feel the same way. You know what? My girlfriend, my father… I don’t know anyone that calls me Brian. The only people that call me Brian are the people that I don’t know.” [Metal Edge, 2001]
EDIT - The reason calling him “Brian” is foolish is because you only know him because of the “Marilyn Manson” persona. Unless you grew up with him you never knew “Brian”. His good friends and even ex-wife never called him that. And calling him “Brian” in an attempt to be demeaning/debunk him (which is almost always the motive behind doing so) just makes the person doing the debunking seem corny IMO
Whatever floats his boat I guess. I doubt Alice Cooper in real life would be called Alice. Doesn’t feel weird though for Iggy to be called Iggy though. Just feels right. Manson, on the other hand doesn’t. Cool band name and stage name, but in real life? I dunno…

I gotta hand it too you, you really are passionate about this whole name thing. but I gotta point out that it’s kinda funny to read that calling someone “Brian” is foolish when Brian is a perfectly legitimate boys name, whereas Marilyn not so much. Your point is duly noted though, and I concede.

Rob Zombie - Hellbilly Deluxe 2 - It’s better than Manson’s latest work, I gotta give it that.
He seems to have been around forever (I remember getting ‘excited’ about a forthcoming Zombie album 18 years ago) but I had a look on imdb.com and it says he was born in '65 which makes him a hell of alot younger than I thought (45 is no longer old these days…half the leading men in Hollywood are over 35…).
Same with Henry Rollins. That guy was fending off chairs at Black Flag gigs back when I was graduating from kindergarten. And he’s not even 50 yet!!! He’s about the same age as Tom Cruise I think. And I don’t consider Tom Cruise to be ‘old’.
Anyway, the new Zombie is indeed a tired, cliched affair. A bit like his films.

It’s amazing what taking care of your body will do for you. I mean the man not called brian is the same age, looks like shit. Trent up there too, but takes care of himself now and it shows. Rollins never even tried drugs i think, and always was into keeping in shape and he looks like he could pass for early 30’s if he died his hair. no comment on al. I mean he just quit smoking w/the misses so maybe he’ll like, un-age himself.
Been chillin’ out at home for the last week or so…all by myself!!! It’s been seriously hot and humid here, so I’m alternately lounging by the pool and the air conditioner either nude or in my undies, getting seriously drunk on pina colada, going to bed at 4am and listening to…
Ramleh - Hole In The Heart
Nurse With Wound - Soundpooling
Devo - Pioneers Who Got Scalped
Various - Picknick Mit Hermann
Negativland - Free
Squarepusher - Go Plastic
Herbie Hancock - Mwandishi
Underworld - Second Toughest In The Infants
The Birthday Party - Peel Sessions
Awesome man! Really hope you enjoy it. Listening to that record for the first time was mind blowing. Literally changed my entire outlook on music and inspired me probably more than anything has before or since (not that what they were doing was revolutionary—I just had never heard such a delicate balance of noise and structure before…“dumb” brutal heaviness and “academic” experimentation…and so dark and unique). A real masterpiece. One of the many acts who revitalized Industrial music in the 00’s. I get goosebumps thinking about.[/reply]
Failure - Fantastic Planet. One of the most amazing, but underrated bands/album ever.
Failure’s great, definitely one of my favorite bands from the 90s. I’m surprised how overlooked they were, and it’s too bad they didn’t stick around longer. FP is awesome, and Magnified is a solid album as well.
Did you ever hear the Replicants project from '95, with Paul D’Amour from Tool? Definitely a bizarre, hit-and-miss CD, but I seem to remember liking a couple of the covers (Destination Unknown comes to mind).
This Bodychoke album is fucking nuts. Imagine a Joy Division gig where everyone is doped up on morphine and Ian Curtis is talking about beating his wife alongside a blender full of rocks set on puree, and that’s pretty much it in a nutshell.

They even did Are Friends Electric?. Some of it’s kinda whatever, but it’s a pretty cool listen.
