wow no love for the new guy! I’ve seen them 3 times with the new guy and I thought they were great.
Oh well
Late,

The guy can hit high notes, i’ll give him that. But he sounds too whiney compared to layne. There has to be many better choices out there than this guy. And watching the videos, it peeves me to see this guy singing those fucked up songs Layne wrote. This guy probably knows nothing about the background of those songs. Layne wrote those songs while in a dark place, and died in that dark place. This guy is just some guy singing dark songs from a man who died died for the reasons he wrote these songs that have absolutely nothing to do with him, and likely has zero experience in that whatsoever. Looks like a fucking frat boy.
Maybe a little harsh on him, but I have a hard time hearing this new guy singing these songs, when he seems so “straight”. Layne was as real as the fucking came. This guy is a mannequin going through the appropriate motions.
I’m going to listen to the new album. Probably won’t buy it. And judging from two songs, already, I don’t like it.
been brushing up on the butthole surfers catalogue of mine for the upcoming show. i love independant worm saloon and locust abortion technician.
Anyone have any explanation for this Buttholes reunion, outside of Gibby needing cash? Seems suspect when you see there hasn’t been a new album in eight years.
…whoa, just found out they’re playing with the mothafuckin Melvins. Now I have no reason to not be there!
I’ve been buying sooooo many records lately I completely forgot how deadly the recent Two Fingers album is after spinning it this morning. Two Fingers is a collaboration between Amon Tobin & Doubleclick on production which features the vocal talents of Sway, Ms Jade, Ce’Cile, Durrty Goodz and Kevin Tuffy. This is some next level shit…

Yeah, bring on a new album - or maybe not…considering how damn awful the last one was. I think they’ve run out of new ideas.
Who, Melvins or Butthole Surfers?
I didn’t particularly like either band’s last albums… [:P]
Nude With Boots was an awesome album.
As for the Surfers…I read a review for their last show over here and it wasn’t the best.
[reply]I saw them live this past Friday and it was great.
Good one. Was it xxxchange (Spank Rock DJ) who was supporting??? It was supposed to be Dubstep don Zomby supporting but he didn’t show…funnily enough the guy NEVER shows for any of his shows?? But why on earth he’d not show for an Animal Collective gig is beyond me considering how big AC are at the moment.
If you dig AC you need to check out Akron/Family.
http://www.myspace.com/akronfamily
Also if you haven’t already you NEED to score Panda Bear’s (AC drummer/singer/programmer etc) “Person Pitch”. That album is better than all of the AC albums.
I really can’t think of a band that sounds anything like them…
Beach Boys are the obvious one.[/reply]
Yeah I’d say they are a mix of Beach Boys harmonies, Syd Barrett/early Floyd type weirdness, and Boredoms style avant percussive Noise.
Also Black Dice opened for them. I’ve been trying to see Black Dice for awhile now and they were interesting. I was a bigger fan of their back with ‘Broken Ear Record’, but the newer material they played live was decent and they had an ok energy and stage presence.
Let me make it clear I have absolutely zero respect for DJs. Yeah some DJ opened. Played what sounded like quasi-intellectual hip hop without anyone rapping over it. I think it was Spank Rock or whatever.
Dude was a total wigger hype man shouting things like “Wassup Brooklyn?!” and hyping and singing falsetto over the last song he played which again sounded just like an underground hip hop song or whatever without the vocals.
I want to see a band who play instruments with a singer when I go to a live show. Call me old fashioned. But these hip DJs can suck a dick honestly. Keep that shit confined to a club please…
I will check out Akron/Family right now since I’ve noticed you hyping them a lot.
To be honest the dub step I’ve listened to is too stripped down for my taste. It has some nice grooves but I like a lot of meticulous layering in my electronic music. Plus it loses points automatically for not having a vocalist and presumably being the kind of music that does not translate well live.

Gibby never really went away. He’s been around. He had his solo cd come out. They remastered a bunch of the older releases. There was that humpty dumpty whatever cd… He produced the last lemonheads cd which took like a year

DJs have made some of the most rockin records on the face of the planet as far as I’m concerned?

Good call. They make much better albums than Animal Collective imho and rock a hell of a lot harder in the live department too. I’ve seen Animal Collective twice live and they definately aren’t as amazing as they could (should) be.
To be honest the dub step I’ve listened to is too stripped down for my taste. .
Well that’s what makes Dub so good. It’s stripped down to the basics which is the bass and the drum rhythm. Less is more as Miles Davis used to say.
Dubstep on the other hand has many aspects to it. Obviously the bass and the drums are up front in the mix (which is the way it should be). But I mean it has so many producers that make completely different sounding music. The one thing about Dubstep that is a given though is it’s virtually all 140bpm.
I myself don’t really get into alot of the “big” name producers (Skream, Benga, Caspa etc)…the Dubstep producers I do bother with however happen to be making the freshest most bad-ass music on the planet as far as I’m concerned. (Goth Trad, Ramadanman, Untold, Scuba, RSD, aXXo, Distance to name a few)
It has some nice grooves but I like a lot of meticulous layering in my electronic music.
What electronic music do you like out of curiousity???
Plus it loses points automatically for not having a vocalist and presumably being the kind of music that does not translate well live.
This is complete and utter bullshit. Especially considering you probably haven’t witnessed a live Dubstep set by an actual producer.
At the tattoo shop with the myssus. The guys who we go to used to work with gwar and he put on the new gwar record for our enjoyment. A much better offering this time around from them. I haven’t enjoyed them this much since we kill everything.
I lurves gwah!!!

Yeah. Nude with Boots is great. The Kicking Machine is a winner! What did the review say?
The venue they’re playing at is right on the beach. Lovely place, great acoustics. Hoping Buzzo has the Big Business boys in tow, as the double drum setup is one of the most spectacular things i’ve seen live.

If I remember rightly it was their set for the ATP Festival that Melvins & Mike Patton curated…It basically said their set was tired and lackluster. I’m not really a fan of festival sets anyway as I find they tend to be rushed affairs.
Finally bought the Bug album from last year. Damn, it’s a really good album - wish I’d listened to the hype earlier.
Also picked up the new albums by JJ and YACHT. I’m liking both. Pitchfork may be irritating as hell at times but it does plug me into some good new music.
Hiya,
I just purchased JJ too, also on Pitchfork’s recommendation. What a wonderfully refreshing album! My only regret is how short it is…
Right now, I am listening to a lot of “Tusk,” by Fleetwood Mac. Don’t laugh. It’s actually pretty mind-blowing.
The Greatest Album Ever, for the first time in a while. You know damn well which one.
