Been listening to the new Sunn O))). You know how a lot of the time I complain about bands that work on paper, but not in practice? (Like Dream Theater, for example.) Sunn O))) is the opposite side of that coin, a band that sounds dreadful in concept (robes? smoke machines? 48-minute songs composed of two notes?!?) but works beautifully in execution. Light up a bowl, lower the lights, and somewhere around the 23-minute mark, your face just falls off. Not to beleaguer a common Internet trope, but that Nazi dude from Raiders of the Lost Ark in the black coat and hat was listening to this album at the end of the movie when HIS face fell off.

Nine Inch Noize - As Live As You Needed Me To Be
The origin of this document is “shrouded in mystery.” Some people responded to a fishy-looking e-mail and got a primitive-looking, old-school cassette in the post. Turns out it was a compilation of all the songs NIN remixed live with Boys Noize. (It’s a live recording, but the crowd noise is mostly filtered out.) Still not known if this is semi-official NIN or a total bootleg, but it’s grooooooovy.

I found a copy of this yesterday, and agreed, very cool stuff! I saw last year’s leg of the tour, and the b-stage collabs of these tracks were definitely the highlight of the show for me.
I’m not sure how official this is either, but the sound quality is great. Someone put a lot of effort into this compilation, and glad they did

Actually next week’s release may just be a slightly more cleaned-up version of what we’re already hearing. The evidence for this? The RIAA has slapped everyone sharing the files (from Youtube to ninlive.com) with injunctions. Personally, I’ll be happy either way – altho I’d be happiest if it’s NEW songs, y’know?
I just wanna say I’m glad they went with Nine Inch Noize rather than Nine Inch Boys…
