Alice Cooper-Dada…
Fuck yes!!! DaDa RULES!!!
Dada is one of my favorite Coop albums…it is so different from anything else he has done and yet it is still so Alice…even amongst the other records from the Blackout era it stands apart…and I love those records also…Dada is so weird and creepy and has that influence from his time with Salvador Dali that you somehow feel which extends to the album artwork…and of course it has the great production technique of the legendary Bob Ezrin who I’m sure was as out of his mind on illicit substance as Coop was…it is in my top 5 Alice albums,no question…
I think it would be so cool if Alice did a special limited small tour some day where he finally performed a full set of songs pulled from the blackout era. He toured for “Special Forces”, of course (and the live footage is almost terrifying – so fucking cool!!), but NONE of the songs from “Zipper” or “Dada” have ever been done live. He could just do a stripped down set, or…with his humor and budget I’m sure he could have a blast putting together some actual stage productions for stuff like “Zorro’s Ascent”, “I Like Girls”, “I’m Alive (That Was The Day My Dead Pet Returned To Save My Life)”, “I Love America”, etc.
I had no idea this album existed. (I have a bunch of Alice Cooper albums, and I honestly don’t listen to them enough. He’s great.) Between Ezrin and the stuff I read about the record (no songs played live, Cooper considers it the scariest album he ever made, etc.), I got really intrigued. So I found a copy real quick (no hints) and I’m listening to it now, and WOW. Thanks for the mention, man!
It’s definitely got some creepy vibes, but I think the circumstances surrounding it, with Coop as far off the wagon as they can go and freebasing coke and having large portions of those three years just “blacked out” is why he considers it so scary on a personal level.
Look up some live footage of him in that period or how he looked on the “Special Forces” tour. It’s wild. He just looks completely savage.
There are some interviews out there from this era too. He’s all tweaked out, talking a mile a minute.
Which album? DaDa? zipper? Now I’m intrigued.
Yeah! The Tom Snyder interview is nuts. What’s really impressive to me is that, despite looking half dead and completely cranked past 11, he still conducts himself with a great air of class and dignity and is charming (but, yes, still absolutely terrifying).
I was about 3rd row center for the from the inside tour, still the most original show ive ever seen.
DAMN, LUCKY! That’s my favorite Alice album and from the videos I’ve seen, those shows were completely insane. I love the dancing giant booze bottles.
Listened DaDa on youtube today. It was pretty good. Definitely different. Even my wife chimed in… “Who is this? It’s kinda cool.”
I liked it. I may get it at Amoeba next time i’m down there.
Yeah the dvd that came out was the worst pro shot ever, bad angles, mostly all side stage.
Godflesh - New Flesh In Dub Vol. 1
Gunnar you just imagined my dream tour…how great would it be for Alice to do a small tour like that…god damn, I may need to bank roll the thing and fucking make it happen hahaha…glad you cats who hadn’t heard Dada are digging it…its an incredible record and just grows on you the more you listen to it…
And yeah Alice during that era just looked like a depraved junkie phantom that crawled out from under a bridge…really pretty scary actually…Tom Snyder was probably going “what the fucking fuck am I interviewing here”…really interesting interview…(for a fun Tom Snyder interview I like to watch the one with Kiss…where Ace and Peter are blasted out of their gords and Ace is stealing the show while Gene stews in his anger and Paul just tries to hold it together to no avail)…
I’m listening to New Flesh in Dub also, Rev…
Fuck yes!!!
The dub shit on this is heavy as balls…I have some of this stuff on some of the Jap imports I have but slot of it I haven’t heard…
