Front Line Assembly - Mechanical Soul
Death Cab For Cutie - The Georgia EP
I’ve honestly been pretty addicted to the “News”.
I’m obsessed with all the crazy shit going on and I try to get better informed and educated on the various processes and projections of it all. Most channels are really partisan, so it tends to try and sell you their respective moral position and feelings, so I flip back and forth between so-called conservative and liberal sources.
I really like a balanced team (“liberal” gal and “conservative” dude) of “Krystal and Saagar” that is branded as THE HILL. They don’t just condemn the other respective sides but actually present intelligent and balanced discourse, and both readily accept and admit the failings and horrors of their particular sides. It’s really refreshing and it’s so weird that there’s not much like it out there since I think reasonable Americans have been starved for stuff like this for a long time.

We killed most of our cable cause it was expensive and we just weren’t into all of those unnecessary channels. So, unfortunately when we axed it, we lost fox and MSNBC as well.
The day of the electoral count I turned on CNN for the first time in about a decade just to watch it happen and shit unfolded and I watched more CNN in 24 hours than I had in about 10 years… and it stayed that way for about a day before I quickly realized why I quit cable news. constant repeating of buzz words/phrases, more speculation than news, more opinion than any actual information. reactionary bullshit.
I’ve had enough cable news again. I was watching don lemon the other day at about 11:30pm and he and then his panel must’ve said “Mitch Mconnel supports impeachment” at least 2 dozen times in about 15 minutes. One of the panel guests said “umm that’s actually not true Mconnels office has put out a statement saying they will listen to the testimony and then make an informed decision.” So I checked and sure enough that’s exactly what Mconnell said but that didn’t stop Don Lemon and the ticker continuing to repeat it.
So I’m done with cable news again. Give me the digital newspapers and magazines anytime and everytime over cable news.
I have a journalism degree from Stony Brook University, and we had two things drilled into our heads the whole time:
- follow the money;
- cable news is the worst thing to happen to journalism in American history.
The only 24/7 cable news channel worth its salt is the BBC, and that’s because they cast a much wider net in an attempt to provide varied material. CNN, FOX, MSNBC… they take a story that can be summed up in one sentence, keep reporting it as Breaking News, and spend 4-8 hours inviting pundits to either agree or (in the case of Rick Santorum) snicker and wormishly disagree.
That pretty much sums it up. Yeah, it’s nauseating. I think AP articles are my favorite articles. just straight forward reporting. seldom do opinions or conclusions make it into their reporting.
It’s weird because back when I could travel, one of the perks and things I really enjoyed was getting some decent news. AL-JAZEERA was always my favorite and I would learn 1000% more about what was going on just from watching overseas news a couple nights during my trips than I could get from all the endless coverage on any of the channels at home.

Just bought the 1st six VH Vinyls (Dave) .
The 2015 redips are absolutely amazing quality!!
There’s something about this mellow tune after 2 or 3 listens that brings me back to a late 80’s rock/jazz feel.
I guess Toto/Steely Dan but not 100…Always glad when a tune grabs me.
Lots and lots and LOTS of Fatima Mansions.
I am literally shitting myself right now. Had no idea anyone else knew who they were. One of the best bands ever.
“Keep music evil”
I had that tape in high school. Didn’t they cover “Stigmata”?
They sure did! Did a royally fucked up cover of “Shiny Happy People” too, sounds nothing like the original. Just the chorus, and Cathal Coughlan ranting with distorted vocals. Great shit.
One of my favorite bands at the mo, I’ve liked them since maybe fifteen years ago when I found a well-loved copy of Tima Mansio Dumps the Dead at a used record store and I bought it on a whim. Such a cool, weird, awesome band.
Viva Dead Ponies is a top ten record for me.
Every song on “Viva Dead Ponies” is solid. They really didn’t like Ceaucescu.
Have you heard “Lost In The Former West”? It’s a little crunchier than Ponies. And Microdisney – they’re as good lyrically, but the music is totally different.
I’ve only heard a song or two by Microdisney, but didn’t find it nearly on par with Fatima Mansions. Perhaps time for another try. Any recommendations?
Ruben and the jets…
For real and con safos, amazingly you can get both of these on cd via amazon with a hefty waiting time. Mp3 available too.
Very laid back tunes, zappa was involved with the recording and production for the band.
Check it out on you tube.
