First time I heard Frusciante solo stuff was in the Perry Ferrell film Gift…bizarre film…
that wasn’t bad at all.
Light years beyond anything rhcp has done in 20 years.
Yeah I have that Gift vhs still also…transferred it to dvd of course…
Damn The Seven Ups!!!.. Helluva car chase in that…
What’s it about? I looked it up on IMDB but theres not a whole lot to it other than some dude comes home to find his wife dead…
Its an odd mixture of stuff…the plot is very loose concerning Perry finding his wife dead of an overdose and arranging her corpse with flowers and various religious iconography etc…there are real scenes of Perry and his wife coping drugs mixed with various comedic vingettes, footage of Jane’s Addiction playing live in their prime, studio footage, Perry and his wife’s Santeria wedding, footage of Perry walking up and down Venice beach and his various encounters, video of Perry surfing etc etc…its a real mish mash of stuff that somehow worked for me(especially on repeated viewings)…helps to be a big Jane’s fan of course…it is this strange mix that is equal parts disturbing, comedic, macabre, exhilarating ,exciting, cool and bad ass…of course some might just consider it a big pile of shit…different strokes and all that…some very quotable lines also…anyone who has seen it knows what I’m talking about…
Don’t forget ice T & Ernie C at the end of Gift.
Seven ups…got it on blu ray…one of my favorite movies of all time.
Check out this documentary on frusciante called “stuff” made by johhny Depp, pretty wild.
Yeah Jane’s and Body Count doing a Sly and the Family Stone cut is also a highlight…
Roger Waters, US + THEM
A great live album documenting Waters’ latest tour. Despite the lack of visuals (there’s a DVD, if you need 'em), the performances are spot on. Waters keeps the solo crap to a minimum and gets maximum mileage out of the Floyd songs he’s chosen (the “Dark Side Of The Moon” stuff is particularly muscular, as opposed to the dreamy, ethereal feel the songs had originally). A definite must-have for Floyd fans, and a refreshing change of pace from that Nick Mason debacle that came out a few weeks ago.
Tangerine Dream-Dream Roots collection. Any other TD fans here?
Love Tangerine Dream…they have done the scores to some of my favorite films…and that early stuff is essential listening…
What is on Dream Roots? Is that a comp?
It’s a box set of live and remixed songs.
Ozzy’s new one
Meat Puppets II - Meat Puppets
And All that could have been - NiN
Love ozzys ordinary man lp, aka ozzys breath of fresh air.
I think the best nin live out there is the self destruct tour which unfortunately is only a double vhs set (i have it on dvd via a brazil release) i remember (because i was catering for that tour) type o negative, the jim rose circus side show and marilyn manson were supporting.
That tour could easily be my 1st book…
Ahhh ok sweet…will have to look into that…
Meat Puppets 2…good shit
Oh my god yes. I always loved the unplugged Nirvana versions and thought they were the high lights of the unplugged set but I decided to look up the originals and I was blown away. I like the originals better than the Nirvana versions. the whole album is gold. Hard to believe it came at in '84
Funny story you might know, being the caterer and handling their food: NIN toured with Type O at some point (might not have been the tour you were talking about) and the opening act was a faux-lesbian act called Fem 2 Fem. After they would play, Pete Steele would always come out and say the microphone smelled like fish. Last night of the tour, Danny Lohner rubbed an opened can of tuna fish all over Pete’s mic. Classic
