What are you listening to right now?

Danzig - Skeletons. Fantastic stuff, really enjoying it. Mr Zig has done it again.

His album is out?

Yeah, came out today, i preordered it but it hasn’t arrived yet so i downloaded it after seeing Lowelly’s post above. I loved it, it’s really good stuff. I listened to it 3 times back to back this afternoon, which is something i rarely ever do with any album.

Cocks - YGDSOAB (DVD)

cranked. loud. suck it and see.

btw - who is the big ass black dude doing roadie? is it levi levi?

ps - i also consider this album is a big “f u” to mr uber-cool producer albini as a great fucking dance record.

It’s really, really good - one of those albums that gets better towards the end. The last three tracks are well nigh untouchable. If I had a complaint, it would be the sound quality. Danzig doesn’t seem to care about fidelity too much any more. Also, the fans seem to be up in arms about Tommy Victor’s guitar playing. Frankly, it sounds fine to me. So yes, this is a solid release.

I enjoy his playing myself, i know people prefer John Christ and all, and i do too, but i like Tommy’s playing. Anyway, i’d never heard the originals of lots of the songs on this, so i checked out a couple today. The ZZ Top track Rough Boy is weak 80s bilge, but Danzig’s cover is a gorgeous ballady number, full of bravado [:)] Also really love Satan, but i think the production on the singing in that one’s quite rough, maybe a bit like some of the songs on Lost Tracks.

Pretty much every song on the album is brilliant, i’m really surprised at how it turned out because i saw the rumoured tracklisting and thought it sounded a bit… odd. The Elvis song is great too, i’m really looking forward to his Elvis album, although who knows when that’ll finally surface.

It’s weird, this is the one out of the three new Danzig albums i thought would be the weakest because i’ve thought some of his covers weren’t that great, but it has ended up being one of his best albums, for me anyway.

I may itunes it until i can get a physical copy

So, I’m noticing everyone is a little bit silent on the issue of [url https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXGOLYvVIpc]POPE FRANCES’ new Vatican-approved ‘pop/rock’ album.

NOBODY is moving this to the forefront of their current playlists? Posers!

Yeah, that would most likely be Levi as he worked gigs at the Metro for some time before being bassist-for-hire for just about every U.S. ‘machine rock’ band with some connection to the Chicago axis.

One of my main beefs with Albini, despite agreeing with him on roughly 80% of everything else, is his need to polarize “dance” and “rock” audiences, as if you can’t simply listen to whichever style suits you in specific circumstances. Some of the “rock” acts that are / were his faves, like Silkworm for example, I find pretty unremarkable not because I have more of an allegiance to “dance” music, but simply because they’re ‘meh’ examples of that particular craft.

I’m not sure where his hate of dance / techno / disco comes from, but probably has to do something with that worn-out old “keeping things real” canard. I wrote in one of my books that he should thank dance music for helping to keep the plants open which produce his beloved ‘analog’ vinyl records. If it weren’t for the tons of 12"s being ordered by producers in “dance” genres during the first digital boom, I would argue that Steve would have few if any vinyl pressing plants to press his own work on.
