What are you listening to right now?

[reply]Just started on Alice Cooper’s “Last Temptation”.
Another terrible example of 90’s collage art for the cover.
But this is actually a really solid album. I’m digging the guitar sound. A lot of this reminds me of the late 80’s/ early 90’s Iggy Pop sound.

That cover’s by Dave McKean - he pretty much invented that style as a comic book cover artist. Everything else from the '90s that looks like that was swiped from his work on Sandman, Hellblazer, etc.
Note also that the album was conceptualized by Alice and Neil Gaiman. They put out a comic series based on it with great art by Michael Zulli (some of which appears on the inner sleeve).[/reply]

I flipped through some of the comic art just now (online). That looks really cool, actually. I bought one of those budget multi-disc sets that just had the little cardboard sleeves instead of the full booklets, so I won’t be able to see the full package. I’ll probably see what that comic is going for on Ebay later, though.

It’s been reprinted in trade paperback form several times since it came out in the '90s, so it shouldn’t be hard to find.
Just make sure you get it in color - Dark Horse put out a black and white version for some reason, and that’s not how it was intended to be seen.

Thanks for the heads up. Yeah, Dark Horse can lick my butt. One of the very few comics I used to collect was Mr. Monster. It was originally on an independent called ECLIPSE. The art work was so phenomenal and the colors brilliant. It was such a treat regardless of the stories (which were very fun). Then the title when to Darkhorse and aside from some good cover art the comic turned into a black and white and it was so flat and dead that I couldn’t even bear to try reading the stories.

Anyway, quick rant over. Thanks for the note and I’ll be sure to get a correct color version.

I’ve been becoming a little more genteel as I get older, and trying to appreciate nuance and subtlety in all things.

But every once in a while, I just get that urge to throw on a record that is an unrelenting, insane whirlwind of spastic violence. [url http://revengeofficial.bandcamp.com/]This one from Alberta’s own Revenge came out recently, and boy does it ever fill that bill.

Jesus, it sounds like these guys have been living in a state of perpetual siege from their infancy onwards. Even in a heavy metal world now over-saturated with records of the bullet-belted, poser-killing, 1000 beats-per-minute nuclear holocaust 666 FUKK YOU variety, this still takes the cake. Enjoy!

Zeromancer - Eurotrash

Zeromancer is like an almost-guilty-but-not-quite-guilty-pleasure band for me. I like that album a lot.

I’ve been listening to this giant stack of cheap used CDs that never seems to get smaller. Currently listening to the Breeders???

I’m going through a Hendrix phase again. I’m upgrading all my DVDs to bluray.

i’m a fan of his later work more than his early stuff, but last night I re-watched his Monerey gig (early stuff). This was his “american debut” where he burns up his guitar that you’ve all seen. Man, that performance really rocked my world last night. Hendrix is on 11 (showmanship) the whole time. If you guys ever get a change to watch that performance do so.

Goatwhore - Constricting Rage of the Merciless.

Good show, but him destroying that guitar actually irked me a bit because it looked nice. I bought one of my roommates a Hendrix box set with a bunch of rarities and alternate mixes of classic songs. Definitely worth grabbing.

Nailbomb - Point Blank

What a great album. I think it’s probably the Max Cavalera album i like the most.

Nailbomb - Point Blank

Any good? I’m hoping mine will arrive tomorrow.

Danzig - Skeletons. Fantastic stuff, really enjoying it. Mr Zig has done it again.
