What are you listening to right now?

A few of the tracks are really great. I think I’m okay with about half of the album.

One of the funniest and most intolerable, though, is “Down on the Farm”. Hearing Axl try to sing with a British punk rock voice is hilariously embarrassing.

Yeah, Down on the Farm is hilarious, especially the line “I’m like a fish out of waaaaa-tah!” Ain’t It Fun’s great, more grit and depravity of the type Gn’R are so great at.

I like down on the farm. I think It’s one of the better songs on that album. I like trippy noises at the beginning and Axl’s accent is fun.
Late,

To be honest i love the whole album, i know a lot of people who either hated it or didn’t even give it a chance, but i have loved everything Gn’R ever put out. Like you said, it’s fun!

I like Guns’n’Roses…to a point. I think if you dissect each and every album (well, everything up to Use Your Illusion) and discard the rubbish, then assemble all the good stuff and put it together…you’d come up with around 70 minutes of good, if not great, driving music.

Chinese Democracy is another beast altogether. I bought it recently and was pleasantly surprised at how much unashamedly good fun I had listening to it. It kind of took me back to my early twenties. It’s not “Guns’n’Roses” per se though is it. It’s Axl and…some guys. Not that it matters. I’m glad he bought Buckethead along for the ride on that one. I’m a huge Buckethead fan.

Anyway, lately I’ve been listening to:

The Cure - Wish
T Rex - Futuristic Dragon
Sisters Of Mercy - Floodland
Samhain - November Coming Fire

Babatunde Olatunje’s Drums Of Passion!!!

Samhain - November Coming Fire

yes. yes, yes, yes. the best.

the Misfits, Samhain, and Danzig 1-4 are all untouchably golden.

today im listening to A Gathering Of None, and some Tryptikon.

Sisters Of Mercy - Floodland

You might want to check out the movie “The World’s End”…

Exactly.

I really love Samhain, the first two Danzig and the early Misfits stuff - before they were doing horror comic punk, in the early days with Bobby Steele etc. The best example of Misfits “golden era” can be found on the Static Age lp.

The two Samhain albums are incredible and sorely overlooked. Can’t remember how many parties I was kicked out of or threatened at for wearing my Samhain t shirts back in the late 80’s when seemingly everybody on the block was a preppie.

np:

Final - Reading All The Right Signals Wrong
Final - 3

Another Broadrick gem I have discovered! Thanks ebay!!

wait, the first 2? are you saying that How The Gods Kill doesnt bring you to your knees?!

It’s been a rainy, thunder-y, lightning-y weekend here in the dirty Southwest. My house was the only one on the block with power most of the time, and for some reason, bumping Mingus just seemed to fit. Avant-garde jazz is definitely the music of paranoid, tipsy walks home and the heavens falling from the skies.

Permawar’s been stuck in my head all day, but with the lyrics replaced with the ones from Pantera’s “I’m Broken.” [laugh] I might actually be looking forward to the new album, because what I’ve heard so far isn’t outright BAD, nor is it any good. It’s just FUNNY to me. The Super Collider comparison still stands, hahah.

It’s a Godflesh afternoon right now, though. Deaf, Dumb and Blind. Those drums are almost too mechanical to be human, and those harmonics are so close to being bad Zakk Wylde type things that it’s awesome.

Mingus might be my favorite jazz ‘collectionist’. he always amassed the best bands around him, and if you sort through his stuff you can find some shocking pairings with different jazz greats.

‘The Clown’ always touches my heart. it is a perfect composition, and the poem fits it so brilliantly.

good call.

Voices From The Lake…for the millionth time since it was released last year.

Puscifer - All Re-Mixed Up

Today, Seibold released the new Hate Dept. record on Bandcamp for a pay-what-you-want download, but as soon as I’ve got stuff squared away, I’m getting the physical. It’s really, really good.

ARMORED SAINT!

i have been on a Bush-era Anthrax and Armored Saint kick the last day and a half… came up because a good buddy of mine (singer in a band i play with) played me a riff idea and it sounded exactly like Safe Home, and when i told him that, he said he had never even heard the song, and that he never gave ‘Bush-thrax’ a real chance… well… i guess i have been making up for his lost time.

the last Armored Saint album, La Raza is phenomenal. ‘Left Hook From Right Field’ is a deadly tune.

Totally agree this release is top notch. Great hard rock. I was listening to it yesterday.
[:P]

Listening to the new Ministry live album on Spotify and not being surprised that Al “fixed” all his vocals.

Armored Saint rules.
