I’ve never connected with his works either and the cult of worship surrounding the dude has always been a bit of a head scratcher for me too.
Skinny Puppy - Rabies & Last rights
Mr Bungle - Disco Volante
edit: I went to the vinyl shop in my hometown this morning and this discussion was in my head. I saw Disco Volante and thought ‘oh…why the hell not?’ It’s one hell of a wild ride to be sure.
I listened to Disco Volante on psychoactive drugs one night back when it came out…that’s was a strange night…
Steven Wilson Presents Intrigue; Progressive Sounds in UK Alternative Music 1979-89 (2023)
I just read a review about that release…I’m gonna grab that up…a lot of the bands that he talks up on his podcast with Tim Bowness…

A ton of stuff I never heard of. Pretty good so far.
I saw a BUFFALO patch on a vest James Hetfield was wearing.
I’d never heard of the band so I searched YouTube and found this band from Australia (which I later learned was not the one James was reppin’, hahahaha!!!). There’s also another obscure NWOBM band called Buffalo.
But whatever. I’m kind of obsessed with how badass these Aussie mofos are.
They’re like a sweaty down-undah version of UFO or something. I’m lovin’ it.
Doing some work around the house this morning…
Joe Jackson - Look Sharp!
Sun Ra. Some of the weirdest shit ever recorded.
Sun Ra is some bizarre shit for sure…and he was super prolific…
I’m listening to a bunch of Wayne Shorter…what an innovative master of the instrument…all his Miles stuff and Weather Report and work with Herbie Hancock and Bill Laswell…rip Wayne, you were the man …
This is some good shit…and I get what you are saying with the UFO comparison…killer…
A bit of NYHC this morning while I work.
Ludichrist - Immaculate Deception
Sick of it All - Scratch the Surface
Edit - also Canadian punkers - Dayglo Abortions - Stupid Songs, Stupid World
Aerosmith - Get Your Wings.
Gritty, dirty, one of a kind tone.
Accept - Breaker
Deep Purple - Machine Head
Bought Accept on the advice of a friend. Not as good as I’d hoped but still a decent addition to my vinyl collection.
Regarding Accept… Metal Heart is my go to. Killer one!
Viagra Boys
They didn’t come to my area when touring, but their live show has a serious RevCo 1988 vibe:
If you get a chance go see VB. Super fun. You won’t be disappointed.
