Well, I would've felt like an ass...

Good thing I didn’t buy a plane ticket…

That sucks. I was thinking about seeing this, actually.

I was pretty 50/50. I’ve got a lot going on right now, so it wasn’t the best idea. I seriously thought about saying “fuck it” and flying out to California. Good thing I didn’t.

I wouldn’t have traveled far or flown anywhere for it, but I would still be super pissed if I’d bought a ticket. A buddy of mine just made a post on another forum about the “upcoming” show. He apparently hasn’t got the news yet.

Duuuuuuuuuuude, this fucking blows! I had 3 tickets to see them on Wednesday night and I was really stoked for the experience. Poop.

@#$%&#@!!!

Lame.

Hope they fire their tour manager.

^
Yeah, seriously.

I live close to the bay area and considered going but I’m glad I didn’t

I was meant to go through to Glasgow on Sunday to see Shrinebuilder and couldn’t as buses/trains were cancelled due to Scotland turning into Hoth. I was furious!!! I was going to meet a dude from the Melvins forum who flew in for the gig…luckily for him he managed to land and catch the gig…reading his short review made me even more upset about missing the set…

"Shrinebuilder are the heaviest and loudest band I’ve ever seen. Scott Kelly still has his soul-curdling Neurosisy voice even though he has a lot less teeth since I last saw him, and watching his face during the heavy bits was like looking at a man trying to pass Beelzebub himself (and I mean pass him in that way, not pass him in the street); Al’s bass playing is effortless and faultless and he plays with a kind of hunched skipping-on-the-spot movement that’s quite cute; Wino was the only one who engaged the crowd witha couple of little quips (while the others weren’t looking) and Dale was hitting the traps like he was the only drummer in the world again - it was great to see him playing more basic stuff than Melvins and doing it on his own again. It just meant he could hit them harder! A well fucking heavy night which would have had more of an audience if it hadn’t snowed so much during the day.

Support was from Holy Mountain who were so awesome they deserve their own paragraph. They’re the Glasgow Holy Mountain, not the U.S. Holy Mountain."

Here was the outside of my lounge window on Sunday…

Today is even worse!

I had already bought my ticket too. Bad times!

Yeah I’m pretty bummed about this cancellation.

You think they would’ve planned ahead and got their shit together…

Though something tells me maybe disappointing ticket sales had something to do with this cancellation…?

I haven’t seen any figures on that, but I wouldn’t really think so. They seemed to be pretty realistic with their expectations on that front, booking (at least in LA) venues with reasonable capacities (300-800 people, respectively). The LA gigs were both sold out last I checked. And it seemed decently promoted too.

I don’t know about other locales.

Anyway, sucks for anyone that was planning to go.

Echoplex capacity is about 500 and the Fonda (Music Box) capacity is about 1300. Having been to both venues, the Fonda is preferred because it is the better sounding of the two, while the Echoplex is the more intimate, compacted club with a small stage (a.k.a. a sweat box when at capacity).

Another disappointed fan. I bought tickets for the first LA performance at The Music Box the day they went on sale. Went ahead and booked a hotel and asked for time off from work. The sudden cancellation came as a shock and is still difficult for me to come to grips with as I’ve been looking forward to seeing them since I first discovered them ten years ago.

What’s suspicious to me is why there’s no foreseeable plans to reschedule and the band has been silent since this abrupt piece of news…makes me wonder.
