Wax-Trax! Pop-Up Store

So…after a hearty Father’s Day breakfast with the family, Cate & I headed for METRO to checkout the Wax Trax! Pop Up Store.

I was dreading the traffic and parking but both fears were unfounded. Remarkably light traffic on both the expressways and along Clark Street. We had our choice of about 5 spaces directly across the street from METRO. We arrived around 11:30 and I had expected that the pop-up store would be in the old storefront that once housed Pravda records. Again I was wrong. The goods were all displayed upstairs in METRO, on the main floor floor. There were huge posters hanging everywhere and a vinyl disply that must have been nearly 100ft. long, three bins deep. The line for the vinyl extended out into the hall and when we left…around 12:15…the line was down the staircase. I’ve never seen so many droolers queued up in my life.

I wasn’t interested in any vinyl that I don’t already have and didn’t want to wait in line, we had a big day planned, so we headed over to the t-shirt display. Finally hit gold with my third choice, the first two being sold out already, and walked away with a new WT! tee with a circular motif and the WT! face logo in the middle screened in two shades of gray on a black shirt. But the nice thing…it was placed into an original early 80’s “Wax Trax Upstairs!” drawstring shopping bag. I actually love the bag as much as the shirt.

Spied Julia while at the t-shirt table and walked over and chatted for about 10 minutes. Cate and Julia had never met, which I found hard to believe. Julia was really happy with the turnout and the scene was just incredible. I was told that there was a line of about 200 when they opened at 11.

I forgot to mention that there was constant WT! music being spun on the METRO PA. Heard ‘Cold Life’ when I was standing at the t-shirt table. Cate jabbed me in the ribs and rolled her eyes at me before laughing.

I sure hope they do it again.

Here’s a couple of pix that I nicked from the WT! FB page.

Panoramic view.

Awesome! If I was in the area, I definitely would have been there.

That’s really cool wempathy. Thanks for posting the Pics!

Damn low and slow for 700 bucks still. I wonder if she used the ebay sale to price the rest of them. Also what was that revco on the bottom left of that first pic? I’m not familiar with that release. Is it a single or an ep or what? Also that mega revco poster hangin up in the second pic is really awesome.

It’s the first pressing of the No Devotion single.

Yes, all the things were priced pretty much what the ebay auctions had ended at. The really rare things anyway. Low & Slow went for just over $700. Toixic went for just over $500 and LSD went for $350 or so. So they rounded slightly down. But it’s not like you’ll get them anyplace else - Toxic and Low & Slow anyway. That’s only the 3rd copy of Low & Slow that I know of out there.

It;s the first pressing of No Devotion, also known as the “ugly cover”. Never released ond only a few made their way out there. The songs are the same, but the record itself is a test pressing with what were to be the A and B side labels stuck on over the test pressing logos. There aren’t many of them, but I’ve seen (and may still own) a couple of them, so I believe they’re all that way.

That is awesome! Wish i lived in the chicago area… But then again my credit card would probably be maxed. Any chance of ripping the low and slow record for the die hards to hear, bisquito?
