Myspace is so 2005.

The video Wempathy mentioned is great, for those who haven’t signed up yet. A guy literally walks down Lincoln Ave. with his camera and into the store (I’m guessing sometime between 83-85?), and films the employees (Jim and Danny are behind the counter), and sees Steve Albini purchasing vinyl. The atmosphere inside looks really cool, lots of Test Dept. promos all over the store…it’s quite the time capsule. The guy who made the recording said he has tons more footage, and will be uploading more clips. Very cool stuff for a Wax Trax nerd.

Danny is the guy in the white sleeveless T-shirt. Jim is visible for only a second near the beginning, behind the counter flipping through some disc sleeves, wearing a dark shirt. The guy in the white shirt with the short hair who get a lot of camera time is Chicago DJ legend and long time Wax Trax employee Steve Paul. Steve and I have known each other since…oh, 1978? The girl behind the counter might be Julia Nash?? We’ve only met a couple of times, once when she was still living in Missouri with her Mom so I can’t be sure.

that video is nothing but awesome. wow.

Yeah, that video made my day!

In the comments, Steve said it was Ruth, did you know her?

It’s true I and the million some other people on FB lack an adult “statis” and “cant” communicate in person, kind of you to point that out!

Yeah homes, lighten up there…

I can understand your contempt for people that are constantly on facebook updating their status with mundane crap, but there is no shame in casual facebook usage.

Thanks wempathy! I look forward to viewing the video when I return home.

that brought up old memolries of me being eleven, thinking i was going to run away to chicago (all my other lil’ friends seattle) start a band and get signed to wax trax and hang out with ministry/kmfdm/pig/p-orridege, i assumed back then that they all hung out. This, all while staring at the endless wheat field in my boring little hick town. youth…gone wild

Ha! Sounds pretty similar to my youth!

Sure, I remember Ruth. She got married to a guy named Bill Mainey who printed a lot of the t-shirts and bags for Wax Trax. Bill and I remained pretty good friends until the mid-90’s when I moved to Houston. Bill and I along with a dozen or other Northside/Wax Trax scenesters had a regular pick-up basketball game on Mondays during the summer and when fall came around we played touch football at Oz Park. I knew Bill a lot better than I knew Ruth.

I actually remember Bill’s bachelor party. Barker was there and so were most of the Wax Trax crew. And then I remember going to the wedding reception with my wife and seeing Patty with young Adrienne who was only a baby. Amazing how these old videos and photos rekindle the memory which leads to another…and then another…etc.

I joined the group even though I’ve never been to Wax Trax, Chicago or the US for that matter.

I second that comment about casual facebook usage being nothing to be ashamed of.

For some awesomely hilarious non-casual usage, check out http://www.lamebook.com

dude get over yourself. Hell chances are you’ve already visited the site and absorbed all the info, watched the video, and saved it in the memory vault so you can pretend you actually WERE there at one point in time and describe it based on what you saw…
is it that adult “statis” of your just hating anything that’s popular with the meanstream? That’s always been really mature

I remember going to look for Wax Trax when I was in Chicago a few years ago but couldn’t find it (either it was gone or I wasn’t looking in the right place). Wax Trax has enough of an interesting history to make a proper documentary feature about it, and that’s just from my skeletal knowledge of it. They should actually do a series on famous studios: U.S., Britain and wherever else. Or maybe they already have and I just missed it.

anyone else here been to the original colorado locations? theres 3 stores right around each other in denver i had to pour my beer out second i got there by cops and a hooker blowin a guy (unbeknownst to me) bummed me a cig if that gives you any idea of what the area is like

I don’t quite understand this…
the police and some hooker teamed up to make you pour your beer out? Hopefully she pulled the cock out of her mouth before she reprimanded you! But at least she got a cigarette for you… probably from the dude she was blowing right? or did you tap her on the shoulder while she was blowing the guy?
“hey, you got a cigarette I can get?”

<pulls cock out of mouth> "hold on a sec I’ll ask this guy for you. Hey, Mr. you got a cigarette Destructo can get?

“yeah here”

“thanks. Here ya go Destructo”

“Thank you ma’am. You know, I wouldn’t have had to trouble you if you and the cops didn’t make me pour my beer out. Remember that for the next guy with a beer!”
