What does everyone think about it? I hate it so far. I got a new laptop with 3GB RAM and a dual core processor, and it moves just as fast as my ancient laptop that I just retired. It would fly with XP. Has anyone tried or heard of Ubuntu? How is that? I have a disc that I can wipe Vistia off my new laptop, and reboot XP, and I’m trying to decide if there is any reason not to use it.
I never had a problem with Vista.
Ubuntu is fun but useless if you want to do any actual work, use the internet (flash still doesnt work like its supposed to do) or use it for entertainment (no video decoding hardware acceleration, which means that HD video is really choppy even on brand new machines).
If you dont care for the eye candy and security features of Vista, I’d say go back to XP.
I know diddly squat at computers but I do know that Vista is a pile of gay. I use a 4 year old mac laptop with a battery life of about 5 minutes over the main computer in my house, because it is Vista. We got it last December and it gave us hell for months, had to get the whole computer wiped for some reason and start again (losing hours of music I had put onto it [mad])
I have editing software I got last year and I went to put it on to computer only to find out its not compatible with Vista.
Then again maybe ive just been unlucky with it but still I dont have anything positive to say about it.
software… not compatible with Vista
That right there, is the problem with VISTA. I begged and pleaded with the DELL people to sell me a new Computer with XP installed on it and they wouldn’t and then 3 weeks later a news story runs about how everyone hates vista and there is enough of a demand to start reissuing XP on the newer machines Of course I had already bought the damn VISTA so needless to say I was Pissed!

Yeah I went specifically out of my way to get a new pc with XP installed on it recently because I’ve heard nothing but horror stories about Vista. I’ve also heard Vista has a bunch of built in digital right management crappola that I’m not interested in trying to work around.
All friends of mine who use Windows have upgraded to XP since Vista came out
I run Vista on a virtual machine on the Mac and it’s good though I seldom use it - a tad bit anal about security (it’s like Microsoft never cared for security and then, out of nowhere, came head on about it).
i use XP because I have two graphics cards outputting to ONE monitor. Its called SLI, and it wouldn’t work properly on vista, so I went back down to XP pro.
Vista blows. End of story.
XP = WIN
it’s the most stable MS operating system yet. next to win 2k, imho/experience.
Agreed. It’s the best balance of reliability and customization. It has none of the “illegal operation: shut down” bullshit, and very flexible compatibility with software, hardware, and such.
How do you like the fact that Microsoft no longer sells XP individually in the store, but rather offers a $70 “option” to purchase it on disc if you buy Vista?
Nifty assfucking if you ask me. It’s kind of like walking on coals to get to the Virgin Isles…
