Hey all,
Gonna order a new PC tonight, just wondering about whether anyone knows much about converting VHS? I can get an optional firewire port, but that seems to be for DV cams? Does anyone know if you can get RCA to firewire converters? I had a quick look yesterday, and found a box that can do it, but it was like $600, surely there is another way!
Anyway, any1 have any suggestons or links, let me know!
Cheers

Buy a video card with a “video in” or a “DV in” port. Just plug and play. Oh, and you need some software as well. Moviemaker works just fine and is included in Windows XP.
Video in, and just get audio thru the sound card… hrm, ta.
I could have sworn I’ve seen little devices, just with like 3 rca’s on one side going to, what I assume was a firewire port, just wanted to know if anyone has heard of these, or know if firewire can be used to transfer analog to pc, not that I have been able to find any cords to do that anyway…
bleh, I dunno what I’m talking about now… it’s time for my lunch break, at 4.40 [crazy]

you can take the easy but long road, way. which is by a HOME UNIT DVD burner (it looks like a regular DVD player but it has the capability to burn DVD’S) run your VHS into the Line in of the DVD burner and burn your VHS to DVD that way then take that DVD to your PC and re edit and such that’s how I do mine when I’m bored. but having weekends and holidays off that affords me much leisure time.

I imagine there are devices like you mentioned, Stairwell, though they’d prolly be on the expensive side. Mine is a Cameramate Videosafe unit, and much like you mentioned. It’s got the three ports for stereo audio and video, and leads into a USB port. I think it was on sale for about $80. Also, if you were to purchase a unit along thos lines (USB/Firewire) it would most likely come with the software required.
