Did any of y’all ever submit a drawing of a turtle to get evaluated for your potential as an artist?

Hahaha holy shit I totally remember that now!!!

Even at the age of 9 I was a little skeptical of that, but I did indeed draw that turtle from memory several times while bored in elementary school science class…usually modified with ‘punk rocker’ accessories, since that was what I wanted to be when I grew up.
Were those things similar to the “song-poem” or “song sharking” scan? You know, where you’d send in your lyrics or sheet music to a “respected” record label that would evaluate them at no charge and (of course) send you a letter back saying that your music was “ready for the full Nashville sound treatment” or some such, if you ponied up some money for the recording session? And of course the poor marks who agreed to have their songs recorded would be thinking that they actually had a label behind them marketing their songs, whereas in reality they just received a couple copies of their recorded song in the mail and that was the end of any such “label promotion.”
The documentary movie about this, “Off the Charts” (used to be shown on PBS stations I believe) is terrific…
Back to Filth Prints…if the project doesn’t get funded, what happens?
30 day campaign, $7500 goal, or a $250 a day for 30 days model. It’s currently raised $450 in 5 days.
This is really a question for the campaign runners, but I assume I have to find my indiegogo password - or reset it - and that’s just a pain in the butt. I’ve also had little success with Ministry associated/related indiegogo campaigns.
Just curious if they’ll produce based on whatever funding they receive or if they truly need $7500 to pull it off. Limited edition, so I assume they’ve budgeted for something like 500 comics, 500 DVDs based in part on a bulk production package with some company.
I chatted with Omar last night about these questions and concerns and suggested they be clearer about what the product is and what the campaign is.
To answer a few things:
It’s not a comic. It’s just comic-size, and does feature glossy print photos.
ALL ORDERS WILL BE SHIPPED regardless of how many are sold and if they meet the funding goal or not.
Here’s an updated promo that he just finished which is a bit more to the point than the original version.
Nice work, Gunnar. Thanks, now I feel better spending the cash. Looks like some cool Scaccia pics in the mix. Which is my primary interest.
Omar’s a cool cat. He was super appreciative of the feedback I have him and he addressed it right away.

Draw “Tippy”!
This may have been cancelled as well. I put an order in when it was announced, with November being the scheduled delivery date.
I emailed Omar earlier this month, but haven’t heard anything back.
I’m seeing complaints over in the Ministry FB group too.
Shame.
He’s apparently deactivated his personal FB account. I’ve contacted him on his business page, and will give him some space and allow a few days to reply to me.
I’d like to give him the chance to handle things properly and make things right.
I’ll update y’all shortly.
From the FB group it seems he was responding to FB messages, but not emails. I contacted him in December, I think, and he told me it turned out to be a smaller run than they anticipated and his printer gave bigger jobs the priority. He said he would throw in “something extra” because of the delay. Haven’t heard a word since.

UPDATE COMING SOON . . . .
UPDATE FROM OMAR: Received 9:50pm PST 2/27/2016
Ministry- Filth Prints Delay Ministry Fans, I apologize for the delay in getting the perks of the crowd funding campaign for Filth Prints & Documentary.
I promised this campaign would fulfill, even if the goal was not meant, and I will. For reasons beyond my control, it was simply delayed. I’m working on getting everyone squared away in the next few weeks and will add extra Perks according to how you donated. You work hard for your money, you support your artists and I honor that. This project, done with the bands blessing, is not a band funded project. As a photographer, I was invited to be part of a legacy that includes candid shots of the band during rehearsals and in the recording studio. I simply wanted to share my experience with you all.
Again, please accept my apology for the delay and we’ll have everyone squared away soon. If you need to get in touch with me, please email me at:
omarmena11@gmail.com
Thanks Gunnar!
UPDATE: I contacted Omar again over the weekend. The job is now supposedly at the print/book shop and is targeted to head back to leave printers on 3/31.
Given time to ship the supplies back to Omar and his preparation of the other stuff for his packages (DVD’s and such), I would expect these packages will be dispatching out around mid-to-late April.
If anyone wants to contact Omar directly, they can. I’m just sharing info I got, as it comes.
Cool, thanks for the update!
OMAR has not performed well on this project.
More to the point, he’s not performed AT ALL.
He doesn’t update people when he repeatedly misses EVERY deadline and promise, and when asked to update people accordingly, he won’t. He sent to ME a couple bogus updates after I tenderly coaxed him accordingly, but I never should have even had to do that, and it was aggravating that I would be made to feel like the bad guy for trying to help him.
Anyway, I’ve got about 10 people that check in with me regularly on this (if you are another backer, please let me know). They’ve all gotten zero response lately from him.
In the wake of me and others checking in with him he has chosen to close his personal FB pages where they were contacting him on.
So, I posted a VERY ACCURATE and legitimate review/ concern on his FB Business page. This time he VERY QUICKLY replied and complained that my review was unfair because it had nothing to do with his Wedding Photography.
REVIEW: https://www.facebook.com/omar.mena.7/?fref=ts
He promised immediately to email all the backers last night. This, of course, has NOT happened so, chalk up one more (no surprise) false promise by Omar.
I can’t make any further comments on my review thread . . . . . because he’s blocked me from commenting anymore. Apparently the business users cannot delete reviews, though, so he’s kind of shot his foot off here since I’ll never be able to change my one-star review to anything else (I told him I would gladly change my review if and when he followed through on the project and kept people updated accordingly).
This guy has absolutely less than zero integrity with me. I don’t know what else to say. I guess he now thinks that I am the asshole, though I’ve only ever tried to help the guy and I really did want to see him succeed on this.
He’s failed to EVER stick to a promise and has never shown anyone even the respect of the barest minimum of communications.
He asks that people email him at omarmena11@gmail.com
I don’t suspect any of you will have any better experience, though, but please feel free to try. If you don’t remind him consistently it is GUARANTEED that he will only continue to do nothing.
