UK industrial metal (GF/P.Shifter)

You know when ever someone brings up G.flesh usually i say there boring, but i know there was random stuff they had that was awesome like streetcleaner/cold world and a few others. Another Euro band that’s awesome that i never see brought up here is Pitch Shifter. I think Pitch Shifter is far better than GF i mean check this out

I also lump them in with a few good records and a couple bad ones. All this reminded me of the secondary Industrial-metal records that came out after Ministry broke the mold. The Meathook Seed’s etc. seems like 90-97 all the big metal labels had a few ‘industrial’ bands on them ( most of them seemed to be from the UK ) and somehow i would get sample promo vids/records for alot of them before internet, and while living in ‘farmland’ USA. So, i was wondering can anyone think of more of these bands? i was’nt the biggest fan back then, leaning more towards the electro/noise sound back then, but now i’d be more into it and also if you have not, check out Pitch Shifter. Meathook Seed (famine sector only) actually that all i can think of at moment ,hence why i need your help, anyway check this out just embodies 90’s ‘industrial-metal’ videos:

p.s. I refer to these Euro bands as secondary, because everybody knows any industrial-metal band’s that owned crowns in rock royalty were from the USA…USA…USA…USA…USA!

THIS is the Pitchshifter I’m more familiar with:

And they certainly don’t have shit on Godflesh IMO. I’ve heard their earlier stuff before they went pop and it is like a shittier Godflesh. Pretty big change they made though. Kind of a reverse Ministry. For what it’s worth I like their pop stuff more because it seems more unique and well produced albeit cheesy.

I remember hearing some of their songs in Twisted Metal along with White Zombie songs. Ahh good old days. Fucking love that game.

Haven’t heard of Pitchshifter in years, must be 10 or so. Are they still around? They started off as a Godflesh clone (and weren’t that bad at it either) but when they got more “popular” I thought they were boring. They were really big in the UK metal circuit in the late 90s when they were in nearly every UK metal magazine every bloody week. Regardless, I wouldn’t lump them in the same category as Godflesh.

They put out a CD that had a track at the end that was all samples you could use. I’ve made good use of one of the metal-clang sounds on it.

Optimum Wound Profile fits this topic, and is kind of underrated.

Working on getting copies of “Industrial” and “Submit,” as from what I gather, they’re the only two I’d like.

OH SNAP

I just remembered: I have their cover of “St Anger” off the Blackest Album 4 comp. off Cleopatra. I like it a lot, and if anyone wants me to spread the love, I can hook it up.

you know those bands where you heard a song once, it sucked, you forgot it then somebody mentions them and you don’t know how to articulate them not being good but they just aren’t good?

I think you just did just that. (How’s that for inarticulate?)

I also did that in my post.

But I was trying to focus on the positive. I think pitchshifter has plenty of redeeming qualities even if I’m not a fan.

Godflesh OWNED Pitchshifter.

If you are going to invest in a few Pitchshifter albums I’d suggest “Desensitised” be at the top. That was my fave of theirs back when I listened to them.

I can definately understand folk prefering Pitchshifter over Godflesh though…Gpdflesh records were so friggin ugly and against the grain, they were horrifying…especially to younger music fans where as Pitchshifter was a lot easier of a pill for them to swallow.

Meathook Seed’s “Embedded” album is brilliant. I still listen to that. They released a 2nd one which was absolute Nu-Metal crap? I wasn’t surprised to discover most of the original contributers weren’t on the 2nd…but yeah if you like Industrial Metal which is a little unique and heavy as hell…grab a copy of “Embedded”…it rules.

Meathook Seed were great!!!

I used to have their t shirt back in the day when I was going through my ‘I hate everyone’ phase and it made me look ‘hard’.

I really loved that album.

I didn’t know they released a nu metal album though.

It’s called B.I.B.L.E and it’s friggin horrible. I’m sure you can listen to the songs on their myspace…absolutely nothing like “Embedded”.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Godflesh (and still do) But, I was a bigger fan of Pitchshifter.

Desensitised is one of the most underrated albums of the 90’s. It is such an aggressive record that really jumps out at you.
They definitely toned it down and went a more jungle/breakbeat direction, which I still enjoyed.

You might as well change this thread’s title to “Things Icepick Might Orgasm Over.” Seriously. I looooove me some nasty, lo-fi Nineties industrial metal.

Gonna be snagging some Meathook Seed now, too.

Anyone ever heard of Christdriver? They’re a sadly defunct band outta Seattle that almost does Godflesh better than Godflesh does. “Everything Burns” is easily one of my favorite albums ever.

Anyone ever heard of Christdriver?

THought they were punk out of San Fran made up of left over members of Crimpshrine?

Probably a band with a similar name.

No, these guys are slow, heavy, and menacing.

Sounds worth checking out. A little like Neurosis?

It’s weird I really like Neurosis’s version of “Saturday Night Holocaust” on the virus 100 tribute to the Dead Kennedys but for some reason the dude’s voice bugs the living crap outta me on Souls At Zero. I really dig the music but the singer sounds like he’s trying to be a banshee… FAIL
Although, it works with “Saturday Night Holocaust”… WIN

A band that I always liked from this genre was And Christ Wept. Their “Destroy Existence” album was excellent.

Honestly, I couldn’t tell ya. I’ve been meaning to scope out Neurosis for a LONG time now.

Closest comparison? Godflesh with an old-school Paradise Lost feel.

Gonna be snagging some Meathook Seed now, too.

Make sure it’s their “Embedded” album you get.
