I just watched a documentary on U2’s road to making Acthung Baby and Bono and Edge cited KMFDM, Young Gods, Neubaten, and “machine rock” in general as the main influence for the album.
The reason it was recorded in Berlin was to be near the club culture of Berlin.
Wax trax! Was the main influence on one of the most influential albums in rock history. Kuddos to Jim and Dannie.
It’s cool they admit it, I suspect a LOT of groups were influenced by those kinds of acts more than they can admit. Not a fan of U2 save for a few cuts but that’s interesting
achtung was there best album, I have a million memories of doing crazy shit when that album blew up.
I beg to differ…“Europa” was the best U2 album…which is why none of their fans bought it. Sure it was basically Eno making a U2 album out of cast-offs and outtakes…but that’s probably why it’s so good.
I can’t contest, Zooropa, was also a rewarding album, those two are my favs from them and of course their old school shiat. But man that pop m album was ten steps backwards for them.
You’re gonna have to buy me a drink first, queer bait.

On topic: that’s really cool. I don’t think I’ve listened to any U2 aside from The Joshua Tree and that shitty UNO DOS TRES CATORZE" song. Should give it a spin and see what the fuss is about.
