Type O Negative's Peter Steele dead

Apparently it has been confirmed that Peter Steele died yesterday April 14th of heart failure, he was 48.

I am not a big fan of Type O Negative, but I did go see them once with a friend who loved them and was surprised at how good a show it was. Peter certainly was a larger than life character.

RIP

Wow, that’s full on!!!

Only 48. Good heavens.

RIP

Wow, that came out of left field. Never a huge fan but the man was a force of nature so I take my proverbial hat off to him.

Is this confirmed anywhere?
They’ve released rumors of his passing on a few occasions in the past already. Fool me once…

Wow! Saw type o open for the shitty danzig show. Wonder if his heart failure was connected to drugs or something else like small heart or something
Late,

Yeah, I’m skeptical too, based on past antics. Though, it does seem a lot more legit this time…bummer.

I saw them live 7 years ago. It was a really good (and hilarious) show.

My friend’s ex-girlfriend got their logo tattooed on her a few months ago. She’s probably devastated.

Gotta admit it wouldnt surprise me if he died since he’s progressively been looking worse every time I’ve seen them over the years. He had big problems with alcoholism, as far as I know, and probably other drugs too (and smoking etc)

So yeah, wouldn’t surprise me; however, he’s died once before.

Ah no, this is sad. Kenny Hickey (guitarist) has confirmed it. Only 48. ‘October Rust’ is one of my favourite albums. RIP.

well, so far the only source is some tweet by some tart.
not exactly a solid source!

I’m not believing this until there’s concrete confirmation. Like, a real news link or press release. Wikipedia’s got a German story linked. Since Pete’s not German, I’m remaining skeptical.

Hope it’s not true though.

Just replace him with the singer from Dethklok, and business can go on as usual… [laugh]

I’m really bummed, huge fan.

RIP Pete :frowning:

Wow, this is sad. There were very few characters like Pete Steele in this industry. I consider October Rust to be one of the best albums of the 90’s.
I lost track of Type O after World Coming Down.
Were the later albums worth picking up?

Life Is Killing Me is skippable if you’re not a hardcore fan and easily my least favorite, but I think Dead Again was great. In fact it’s what got me into the band. Give it a go.

It looks like he’s gone for real:

I know Josh was the one who made it up a few years ago but he’s contacted that roadrunner site directly and roadrunner are confirming his death.

Everything Dies.

Well, its a sad thing then.

I was a fan, World Coming Down is an album that helped me get through the death of a close friend. I will always respect the band for this, even if Peter did become a born-again Christian with slightly psychopathic tendencies towards the end of this life (just watch any of his more recent interviews).

What really sucks is while apparently their 2007-2008 tours were sloppy and Pete was a cocaine ridden mess, the most recent interview I saw him in sometime last year he looked and sounded healthier and talked about doing away with drugs at the time. I wonder if he slipped back in or his heart just caught up with his past.

Being 48, built like a brick shithouse (6’7") with cocaine and alcohol issues in the mix is not exactly conducive to longevity. He did seem to go off kilter the last few years but he’s responsible for some great music. I can’t think of my own youth without October Rust, an integral part of my conditioning. One of the most charismatic frontmen of the 90s.

You guys have just no fucking idea how much this bums me out. Pete’s been one of my favorite musicians since I was like twelve.

Goddamn it.

RIP, man. RIP.

[:(]

I’m calling bullshit (again).
