Does anyone know of any websites where you can download music that is not copyrighted and has not restrictions for redistrution? It is OK if it is by an unknown band or some dude in his garage. I just need a few decent songs that I can make laser shows to and put them on my website to give away. When I distribute the laser shows I have to include an MP3 file because that is what the show is synchronized to. So, that prevents me from giving away shows that I have for copyrighted songs. But, I want to give some demo shows away on my website so I need some free songs. I know there are a few musicians on here. Do you have anything you want to give away that has an upbeat tempo?

there’s another site that is similar, but i can’t remember the name. more classical based. also, remember - most music that is over 80 years old is public domain.
Some old classical recordings could work for a laser show. Beethoven, Wagner, etc. Keep in mind that while the music may not be copyrighted, the recordings themselves might be. Also, Carl Orff is not public domain and his relatives like to sue (ask Ministry, KMFDM, Apoptygma Berzerk, etc.)

Blame all those copywrite extensions. Esp, blame Disney. In fact next time you’re at the theme park, just kick Mickey right in the ‘should be public already’ nuts.
