True Blood

Anybody been watching this on hbo? They’re on the second episode and so far i gotta say, although i never saw 6 feet under, this show is fucking great.

6 Feet is an amazing show and I’ve been very curious about True Blood, though I’ll have to wait for DVD as I don’t have any channels.

i’m liking true blood a lot so far. it’s given me some hope back for the future of HBO. That being said, i liked 6’ the first season and then slowly started hating it. i hope that doesn’t happen to me here.

and greendeath, you don’t need tv when you have the internet.

decent stuff. 2nd episode much better than the first.

I just saw the 2nd episode tonight. a bit much relationship drama for me, I think. It might have to grow on me. I think HBO has been a killer run with their original shows (The Wire, Entourage) for quite some time. Only Showtime has had any other decent shows (Weeds, Californication)

Weeds Was crap last season and TOTALLY redeemed itself this season! Plus we finally got to see Nancy’s TITS!! Tits as cute as her face…Nips could be a tad less thick but FINALLY!!!

Dexter is a Kick ass Show on Showtime too. If you haven’t seen it Seasons 1 and 2 are out on DVD now. Season 1 was alright…We watched the first couple of episodes for season 1 and didn’t like it but then caught some of the later shows in season 1 and were HOOKED. Season 2 was great from start to finish!

Californication was a sneaker. I watched it for the boobs but then got sucked into the story! Hank Moody is Da’ Man!!
late,
grmpysmrf

Not to be WAY off topic, but speaking of boobs in TV/cinema…

I just caught “Braveheart” again for the first time in about six years, and while I remember some of the gorier deaths and a few of those awesome Scottish one-liners to a tee, I TOTALLY never remembered seeing Wallace’s wife’s boobs until last night.

And special ed. sys HE’S the gay one…

Anyway, what little I saw of True Blood (about fifteen minutes) was pretty dope. Like Twilight for grown-ups. [cool]

I agree, but most of what i loved HBO for over the years is now dead and gone (sopranos, wire, oz, carnivale, rome). And they have released more crap (john from cinci, tell me u love me, in treatment) in the past couple of years than i remember before those. i do enjoy entourage but feel like it is the same thing over and over and i’m not really sure where they can take that show. so for now True Blood, Big Love, and Curb your Enthusiasm are the reasons i keep hbo on my bill. And their made for tv movies and series (band of brothers, john adams etc) are top notch.

Also looking forward to Dexter’s premiere later this month.

yeah, the missus and i have been digging on big love for some time now.

i want to know wtf is up with deadwood?!!?!? bestest HBO show evar!!!1!

runs off to do a google search

really you didn’t like in treatment? i thought it was great… if you don’t have cable just google or use wikipedia for the southern vampire series of books by charlaine (spelling?) harris and you’ll get the whole story up to whatever book # they’re on… 7 or whatever… but warning they’re be spoilers.

I’ve only seen one episode (the second one) of this and here are my issues with it:

  1. I had no clue whether it was a comedy or serious for the first 20 minutes. Especially the one with hearing the voices. In fact, screw vampires - I would rather watch a show about her in her daily life picking up people’s thoughts. Way more original than… vampires.

  2. Not all Southerners are slow, segregated and hicks (I saw more integration and hospitality in parts of Louisiana and Tennessee than I have ever seen in the midwest). Sick of these Hollywood types showing the South like this.

  3. If you’re going to have a show set in the South and it’s similar to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, at least have hot women in it, not ghetto trash characters.

  4. Not original. I can predict what may happen: power struggle in the vampire community and the good vampires will eventually fight the bad ones involving the humans like the waitress and stuff.

HBO will find a way to ruin it. Deadwood is the probably the best series they have done but due to the lack of sex or action which is the only thing mainstream American TV fans tend to care about, the ratings dropped down slowly. It was a smart show.

This is vampire propaganda. They don’t deserve rights.

HBO is a self-loving narcissitic cable channel celebrating sex, crime, drugs, and death. Most HBO series mostly mock men unless they happen to be gay, white trash, or complete fucken morons.

I concur. It didn’t used to be like that. Add elitist to that too (Entourage). They also somehow almost always mix in race relations to everything. It’s hilarious. HBO is obsessed with homosexuality - it even found itself into Sopranos.

A reviewer said this about the show:

“The graphic sex plays like internet porn and there is no suspense about the murders. If I hadn’t read the books, I’d think the murders were thrown in as an excuse for the porn.”

hbo isn’t about art, as much as they may try and seem that way, but they do get the best actors and have the best productions of any channel on tv hands down. its all about $$$ as everything is so they picked a huge novel series (8 bestsellers) to make a show about. and it is working very well. the ratings are great so they have already signed on for a second season only 2 episodes in. i do think that is is supposed to be moderately humorous at times mixed in with the drama as most of HBO’s shows (including) deadwood are so i see the confusion there. i still think carnivale was the best drama they ever had. such a pity that they canned that due to production costs. but personally i think this show has potential to be much better than anything they’ve done since carnivale ended. deadwood was good but i was happy that they didn’t drag it out any longer. its possible they may do a hbo movie to the off loose ends though.

nola is great but when i visited some family outside of sulphur, la it was one sketchy place that i will glady never ever visit again. i’ve walked alone though sections of detroit at night and felt much more comfortable. well i might go back there just for the food. boudin rules.

I guess I’m not so forgiving to this series because I never got the vampire thing. The fascination with it is probably sexual if anything (sucking blood, etc), but, like zombie movies, I never understood the interest. If I was into vampires that much, I would have probably read the series years ago anyhow.

But we’ll see where it goes - hopefully, for them, it will raise ratings the more it goes along like Six Feet Under, which in my opinion was pure trash TV.

This is brainwashing against the South, which I even had before I went to Tennessee years ago. I found many to be charming, hospitable and laid back. Texas, I found more Latino than anything else. Well it is brainwashing - it wasn’t Louisiana that had 215 murders in the past 2 months - it was Chicago.

Sopranos > Deadwood

yeah chicago is on a roll this year. i read that last year was the lowest city homicide total in decades so maybe the gangs are just making up for it this year. but i don’t think it was uncommon in the 90s for chicago to have close to a thousand murders a year though which is totally crazy to me.

granted i’m a yank but i don’t think it is brainwashing at all. but i do think it does depend on where you are and who you are around. i’ll bet any amount of cash that the percentage of ignorant people down there beats what we have in the northern u.s. easily if for no other reason that the % of high school dropouts is way way higher down there. and la pretty much at the bottom if i’m not mistaken. i’ve been many places in the south (cities and backwards towns) and people were bright and amazingly friendly. so no, not everyone is retarded in the south  but i also won’t wipe aside the notion that there are communities like those in true blood (minus the vamps of course). also don’t forget that the show is just showing 1 group of people who frequent 1 bar in that area. perhaps there is a nice grad student yuppie bar just a few miles down the road. they can do a tv show about that next year… which will get canceled after 2 episodes.

The showtime shows wipe their asses with the hbo shows now… Last hbo show I cared about (and still do) was six feet under. Other than that, my favorite shows were during the 90s there. All of the writers moved to showtime too I hear.

Let me drop in the obligatory statement of: “The Wire is easily the best show HBO ever had, and possibly the best show TV has ever had.”

Anyone who thinks that statement is just hype needs to sit down with season 1 & 2 before they open their damn fool mouth.

I love Big Love and The Sopranos but True Blood sucks balls, just as badly as Dexter.
