Trent Reznor Challenges Music Norms

As someone posted as a comment to this story (comments can be read by scrolling down):

“High school kids lucky enough to own a $999 iBook or a $499 mini can now make their own Nine Inch Nails remix, or sample the loops into creations of their own. This is huge. If it catches on, it could fulfill the prediction Brian Eno once made about popular music eventually becoming user-modifiable constructs”

Edit: actually no…the end user license that Trent’s lawyers made up stops all that from happening…sigh

hehe…another user posted “Due to the death of Jhonn Balance (Coil), Trent is going to need some new talent for the inevitable re-mix album following “With Teeth””. Never thought of that…

Some of the folks on a nin forum converted the stuff in the file on nin.com into aiff.'s(+grammar) and torrented them so the non-apple folks with the right software can fuck around with THTF too. Anybody knows of anything free that can be used to tinker with this crap let me know. Trent claims that their won’t be a remix ep for this album, which is kind of a bummer since FDTS was pretty cool and was what got me to buy some Aphex Twin.

Heh, I saw that this morning. Didn’t really expect something like that to be moderated 4+ on /., not that it’s a bad thing.

Yeah but most Coil fans I knew in England were computer geeks…so who knows? Coil are fairly big in England (or were). NME would always cover them and they appeared on the front cover a few times…and that’s a huge music newspaper in europe…

There’s a new article on the NIN Hotline today (http://theninhotline.net/archives/articles/manager/display_article.php?id=50 ) where Trent has some nice things to say about Ministry:

“I keep in touch with what’s going on. But I hardly listen to anything which I’d say will help on the genre. And I practically never listen to something that has as much influence on me like Skinny Puppys “Vivisect” [1988] or “The Land of Rape And Honey” [1998] by Ministry had. Those albums where ground-braking, innovative and prospective! Never before did I listen to something that inspiring. They affected me very much, just like Front 242.”

That’s odd - I would’ve thought Trent enjoyed Mind Is A Terrible Thing more for some reason. I guess the guitars mixed with electronics and all that.

trents 2nd fav. ministry album: twitch.
which is also dannt lohner’s 1st fav. ministry album.
