Tragicomic

A 24 year old Irishman, Michael Dwyer, was killed by Bolivian armed forces last week during what is believed to be a foiled assassination plot on the Bolivian president Evo Morales.

Does he look like a hardened assassin?

Dwyer recently graduated from college with a degree in contruction management. He worked as a bouncer after graduating then went to South America last October. He was encouraged by his friends back home to not bother coming back to Ireland because the country’s economy has turned to shit, no jobs.

He had no criminal record and by all accounts was a decent lad. His favourite tv programme was ‘The Unit’. His favourite quote was the De Niro line from ‘Heat’ ("… 30 seconds flat if you spot the heat around the corner"). His favourite game was a thing called Airsoft: a game where people dress up in miltary outfits and fire pellet guns that look like real guns. Last January he came into contact with Eduardo Rozsa Flores, a Bolivian Hungarian right wing nut job. He added him as a friend on Facebook…

Three months later he was blown to shit by Bolivian police along with Flores and a Romanian sniper called Magyarosi Arpak, in a hotel in what is being reported as a foiled presidential assassination plot.

Its mad how someone as regular as this guy gets caught up in some hopeless bullshit and then gets shot to death, wrapped in a plastic body bag and thrown into the back of a pick up with the other 2 “assassins” with a photo of this all other Bolivian press the next day. All this before his family back in Ireland had a clue what had happened.

I’m sure it would be bad for business if hardened assassins looked like hardened assassins. [cool]

Ha, yes I suppose. But still they should at least sport a scar on their face just to make it easier for cops, cos cops always need help.

I think poor Micky D was trying to be a bit too ‘Che’ for his own good, but I have not come across any mention that he was politically motivated at all.
There are reports now that other non-Bolivian South American officials are saying the Bolivian gov’s version of events are inaccurate and that the cops just went in and shot these guys, unprovoked and without valid reason.

Who knows.

I can see it being made into a docu/feature film. Steven Soderbergh attached to direct…
