How do the Americans feel?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8579322.stm

Regardless, it’s great to see the Republicans lose.

can’t get over the opposition to this. i really can’t.

good for them that common sense prevailed. funny world when that which could jeopardise a man’s grip on power is something that would serve the common benefit of the people.

lol, I smell another civil war.

I’m against this reform. Fuck this. Socialist bullshit helping poor lazy fucks at the expense of people who are actually contributing members of society.

I’m against this reform. Fuck this. Socialist bullshit helping poor lazy fucks at the expense of people who are actually contributing members of society.

How astute.

You just won’t admit to how much you, and 99% of the population relies on certain programs which you, no doubt, consider to be socialist.

Purchase your own food from a market? Work for somebody else? Use public roads? Depend on the Police, and EMT’s, and Fire Department for protection? Gonna need Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid when you grow old or retire? Pay into any kind of insurance policy? Have any kind of outstanding loans or mortgage?

If you answered “yes” to any of those questions…you might be a socialist. At least by your own definition.

Dont be a fucking asshole! and if you insist on it, give me back ALL of my tax money. get rid of street lights, the roads let the people fend for themselves with fires and crime! WHy am I paying for the fire deparment? my house isn’t burning. I don’t call 911, I don’t need a cop
THe truth is, is it’s NOT SOCIALISM so don’t be such a stupid ass tool Void!

YES this bill is crap but it’s NOT socialism. I’m sick of these stupid ass people that didn’t pay attention in high school history/econ, let alone go to any kind of college trying to wax all intellectual on a subject they know nothing about! and because the rest of the country is so damn stupid they just repeat the crap that the more loudmouthed ones spout off about. don’t be one of those people void, I wanna like you!

That being said, Forcing people to buy anything is B.S. because specifically what will the penalty be for not buying insurance? what is it now with car insurance? they fine you? Stupid, cause if you had money to pay a fine you probably would’ve bought insurance.
stupid bill does not equal insurance. IF the stupid repubs wouldn’t’ve just jumped on the NO platform and actually looked at single payer health care they would see it would be no different than single payer law enforcement. But I imagine they did look at it and saw that if single payer made it, then the gap between elite and the wealthy would close and they can’t have that!

Thank you Wempathy, You are much more Polite than I about this. I’ve had about all I can take out this “Tea Paty Movement”
THe fact that anyone enjoys and expects the programs you have mentioned (as well as a plethora More) and can still rail against health care is beyond me. Where are all of these Pro life people for health care or does life only pertain to the fetus? I would imagine sthat’s the case because most of them are at the “no to health care” rallies. What promotes life better than health care for all?

maybe they’re right on one front though. maybe the public Education system is failing because look how collectively stupid everyone has become/is becoming.

Rather they’d take it out of my taxes rather than my paycheck.

Oh I was being a snide idiot on purpose. Come on now!

My real opinion on this is that I don’t have an opinion on it.

I don’t feel I’m informed enough about this issue.

Thx, smurf. I think the irony is, at least as far as my POV is concerned, that as much as I and people like me don’t want to see the poor forgotten…we also are tired and fed up with them getting a free ride with regards to health care.

I once spent 6 hours in a cold Emergency Room with my wife who sat in a 20 year old wheelchair after she had broken her ankle in 2 places watching her ankle swell up and her crying uncontrollably from the pain while uninsured people with coughs and runny noses clogged up the ER because they had no other recourse. So not only was there a misuse of the ER, but gets who foots the bill in the end? That’s right, people who pay for their coverage. Our rates go up, because of the number of uninsured. This kinda shit has to end.

We all need coverage…and there needs to be competition in the insurance industry…and in the end we’ll all be better off for it.

So there’s my selfish reason for wanting healthcare reform. Can’t call me a bleeding-heart now.

Man I missed the sarcasm on that.
My apologies.

While I don’t like that you don’t have all the facts, I do respect the “no opinion” since you know you don’t know enough. rather have anybody be neutral with no facts than somebody pick a side with propaganda “facts.”

What’s a free ride? If you’re sick, you’re sick… I don’t think anyone person is more important than another when it comes to health (unless of course it’s the health of a doctor [:)])

That sux! but that sounds like the fault of the hospital for not having a decent triage unit.

I know in the So. Cal. town I live in, coughs and runny noses are pushed to the back of the line in favor of a runny nose with health insurance, regardless who got there first. Health Insurance patients always go before non insurance patients.

The sad thing is, even if we did get single payer insurance it would get waaaaay worse before it got better, because there is so much shit that is only half way treated or gone completely untreated for years because of lack of personal funds. So people would be clamoring to get it fixed now that they could. sad really! the politicians would all be yelling “see see health care is in shambles” meanwhile not paying attention to the fact that if Health insurance companies were doing their job from the beginning that shit wouldn’t be going on.

We all need coverage…and there needs to be competition in the insurance industry…and in the end we’ll all be better off for it.

I completely agree. lack of competition has made the health care industry the most disgustingly greedy of all the corporations.

But even better, fuck competitions! make ALL health insurance providers become non profit organizations

So there’s my selfish reason for wanting healthcare reform. Can’t call me a bleeding-heart now.

not every good thing has to be altruistic. You can support something decent and good for the wrong reasons and vice versa.

tea party is another way of saying rich christian white folk.

the hospital ER’s are filled with people using them as Drs. offices as a result OF people being poor and w/o health insurance. Which kinda fucks things up when you, i don’t know, have heart palpitations and need to be seen. You’ll get seen before the runny nose, but you’ll wait a bit longer @ the checkin line

the part that got me was the no federal money towards abortion from now on. So does that mean that the federal money that builds a hospital or a clinic which may have a dr there that provides abortion won’t be allowed? because they are paying for the abortion via having the money go towards putting the building there. i’m not wording this right probalby but whatever.

just keep the government out of my medicaid and medicare (j/k)

yeah people that aren’t wealthy enough to be greedy (but are acting so) and not smart enough to see when they’re being used. more $ than brains. They have no idea that if they get what they want (with no taxes and what not) they are going to be the new poor and will feel the pain of those that are poor now within their life time. wealth always get sucked upward to the elite and when all of the money from the poor is gone guess where the Elite will set their sites… on the dumbasses that helped get them all of that wealth in the first place.

I understand what you’re getting at… but I didn’t think abortions went on in Hospitals. I thought it was an outpatient procedure and took place in clinics.

just keep the government out of my medicaid and medicare (j/k)

I’ve heard people say this for real!!

It’s exactly the same in Australia. People who can afford health cover (ie the selfish middle classes) want health care for free (along with everything else) and so therefore clog up the public system with their coughs and colds and back aches and those who genuinely can’t afford to insure themselves are forced to wait several years for life saving operations.

And if you’re poor and need dental surgery - forget it Gummy!! There’s on average a 5 year waiting list.

It’ll be interesting to see what Rudd The Cunt proposes when he debates the opposition leader on health reform today.

And then (on a related note) there was the bushfires that happened last year.

All these fucking knobheads living in bushfire prone areas (!!!) with NO INSURANCE relying on public sympathy to get their houses rebuilt - genius. So everytime there’s a bushfire or a flood, it’s up to responsible citizens like myself who take out insurance and actually think about the future to take care of ignoramuses who either don’t believe in the concept of insurance or can’t be arsed with something so trivial (!!!).

Sounds fair.

Hell, we’ll just wait until there’s a national emergency then we’ll get on the tv and cry into the camera with sad music playing in the background and we’ll let the rest of the community fix us up. Hell why don’t we just get rid of insurance altogether? If my house burns down my neighbours will pay for it right? How about if I crash my car? Or catch some terrible disease? Will you take care of me?

And don’t give me that crap about not being able to afford it - which would apply to only a small proportion of those affected in the fires. It costs around the price of a packet of cigarettes a week to insure their houses against fire.

Interesting. After the bushfires happened last year, the government said that anyone affected will receive money to help them rebuild. Does that mean then that the people who were insured copped TWO payouts?

I wonder.

Damn straight.

Lay it on me brother.

That makes NO SENSE. If people have health care and are sick they want to feel better… why on earth would they take advantage of the slow Public Health Services?

Hell people pay extra to go to the front of the line at theme parks and you think they are not going to do that with their health care? you’re Delusional.

People with Health Insurance go to their Doctor, not suffer through the E.R… I think you are just misunderstanding the amount of people who do not have Health care coverage.

And if you’re poor and need dental surgery - forget it Gummy!! There’s on average a 5 year waiting list.

well at least you got a time line. No insurance means no waiting list just a big middle finger you can gum on!

House insurance and health insurance are VERY different. In the U.S.you have to buy home owners insurance when you buy a house. which is somewhat fair in that if you want to buy a house you have to figure in that bill to the house payment.

You have a choice, or the choice is made for you by your finances when it comes buying a home and home owners insurance. you don’t have to buy a home but you have to live!

SO, not quite the same for health, you don’t really have a choice as far as living goes. If you’re not able to buy a house, other arrangements are made. What other arrangements are made to life and health as far as health insurance goes? oh that’s right none!

Yeah, just wait till there’s a pandemic and all of those people that you gave the finger to instead of medicine, because they were all freeloading health care off you, the taken advantage of, down trodden, and are all now coughing their nasty sick pandemic germs on you. What then? willing to bet it’ll be too expensive for your health care to treat you, and you’ll be dropped. be nice if everyone had access to health care that way shit is spread less.

You guys need to learn to think past yourselves. Yeah we are all individuals, but we don’t live individually, whether you like it or not, you live in a community and if you’re too goddamned selfish to take care of your community it’s gonna bite you in the ass!

Interesting. After the bushfires happened last year, the government said that anyone affected will receive money to help them rebuild. Does that mean then that the people who were insured copped TWO payouts?
I wonder

Is insurance over in Australia Different than the U.S.? do Insurance Companies actually pay out over there? cause
if insurance there is anything like here, there was NO two pay outs. Insurance NEVER pays out. Which is probably why your country stepped up and paid those people, cause the Insurance companies NEVER hold up their end of the bargain

Do you really want your healthcare service to be like a trip to the DMV? Or like drawing unemployment? When you are sick and you feel like crap, the last thing you want is to deal with idiots. Be careful what you wish for. Next time you are sick you might just say, “Just shoot me.”

You really want to compare the high school graduate employees of the DMV to professionals like doctors and nurses? Please!
well, guess what, when you’re sick and feel like crap and nobody will see you cause you have no insurance perhaps shooting yourself is the only alternative to slowly dying painfully.
But I guess that’s better than having insurance and being told “fuck you anyway” there is your death panel.

Not only that what makes you think that because there is a public option that there wouldn’t be private clinics where you can take you’re elite ass and not have to deal with low life piss poor scum that make up your country? No shortage of Private schools, Private security, Private postal services, toll roads, etc etc why would health services be any different?
Oh that’s right because health insurance takes your money and leaves you to die and nobody should have to pay for that.
People are scared of “communism” when when they have full blown fascist health care in their midst. Sheese! You don’t want Public health care? Then by all means buy the private shit but don’t fuck it up for everyone else.
80 dollars for a doctors visit and then 160 dollars for a generic prescription amoxicillain

Yeah that’s freedom. Assholes!

I had no problem with unemployment… now I’m off of it, it helped me out. What’s the problem with that?
Late,
grmpysmrf

I just might be able to foot a recent medical bill now. End of story.

If I’m at least able to pay less than 2 grand a year for insurance…well…that’s better than what my job offers. Fuck Oxford!
